Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is a sacred time for Muslims worldwide to renew their faith and strengthen their connection with Allah. It marks the period when the Quran was first revealed and is observed through fasting, prayer, reflection, and community. Starting the first day of Ramadan with a sincere intention to go back to Allah can be a transformative experience. Fasting from dawn until sunset is not just about abstaining from food and drink; it’s an opportunity to purify the soul, develop self-discipline, and empathize with those less fortunate. In addition to fasting, many people increase their acts of worship, such as performing extra prayers (Tahajjud), reading the Quran, and making heartfelt duas (supplications). Special nights like Laylat al-Qadr are moments of immense spiritual power when prayers are accepted, and one’s sins can be forgiven. From personal experience, setting daily goals during Ramadan to read specific Quranic chapters or to memorize duas helps deepen one’s spiritual journey. Community gatherings for iftar (breaking the fast) strengthen bonds and foster a spirit of generosity. Ultimately, Ramadan serves as a timely reminder to return to Allah with humility and gratefulness. May all prayers and duas made during this blessed month be accepted. Ameen.
