Do your gums bleed?
Healthy gums do not bleed.
If you notice that your gums bleed when you brush, floss or spontaneously make sure you visit your Dentist and Dental Hygienist.
Make sure you still practice excellent oral hygiene by brushing and flossing.
Bleeding gums can often be an early warning sign of gum disease, such as gingivitis, which if left untreated could progress to more serious conditions like periodontitis. From personal experience, I noticed that my gums would bleed occasionally when brushing or flossing, and initially thought it was from brushing too hard. However, visiting my dental hygienist confirmed it was early gum inflammation. One important lesson I learned is not to ignore bleeding gums or stop flossing, as continuing good oral hygiene practices actually help reduce inflammation and promote healing. Using a soft-bristled toothbrush and gentle techniques can prevent irritation while still effectively cleaning teeth and gums. Regular dental checkups are essential because professionals can detect issues early and provide treatments like deep cleanings if needed. Also, lifestyle factors such as smoking, poor diet, and stress can contribute to gum problems, so addressing these can improve oral health. In summary, if your gums bleed, don’t hesitate to schedule an appointment with your dentist or dental hygienist. Maintaining consistent brushing and flossing habits combined with professional care is key to reversing bleeding and protecting your oral health long-term.
