What My Toddler Eats In a Day 🥣✨

We all see those perfect plates online, but let's be real, what our toddlers actually eat versus what they're served can be two very different things. My little guy is no exception, and I've learned a few tricks (and accepted a few realities) when it comes to his daily menu. For breakfast, I often start with something simple like waffles, sometimes topped with strawberries and blueberries. It's quick, and honestly, a crowd-pleaser. I try to sneak in a bit of protein by using whole-wheat waffles or adding a side of yogurt. The key for me is making it accessible and letting him feed himself as much as possible. Even if half ends up on the floor, the independence is worth it! Snacks are where things get interesting. I always have a variety on hand, and honestly, cheese sticks are a lifesaver! They're a fantastic source of protein and calcium, easy for little hands, and my toddler loves them. I often pair a cheese stick with something else, like a granola bar or some fruit, to keep things balanced. Yes, there are days when he begs for extra fruit snacks, and I usually give in to a reasonable amount because, well, happy toddler, happy mom, right? It's all about balance and not beating yourself up over it. Lunch can be a battleground, but mac and cheese is almost always a winner. To boost the nutrition, I sometimes stir in some pureed butternut squash or finely chopped spinach, or serve it with a side of steamed green beans. It's about meeting them where they are and gently expanding their palate without making mealtime a stressful event. I've found that consistency and offering a variety of foods, even if they're initially rejected, is key. Dinner is often a scaled-down version of what the adults are eating. Last night, for example, we had fish, green beans, and hush puppies. Serving food deconstructed helps, so if he doesn't touch the fish, at least he might eat the green beans. I've learned not to force it. If they eat well at other meals, one less-than-perfect dinner isn't the end of the world. Sometimes, the 'dinner' he actually eats is just a few bites of my plate – which is always a struggle to share! My biggest takeaway from watching what my toddler eats in a day is to embrace the mess, offer healthy choices, and remember that every day is different. Some days he'll clear his plate, other days he'll live on air and a single cheese stick. Providing options like fruit, various vegetable purees mixed into familiar foods, and easy protein sources like cheese sticks helps ensure he's getting enough nutrients overall. It’s a journey of trial and error, but finding those reliable staples, like the beloved cheese stick, makes it a little easier!
