From my own experience, beginning with these four books helped me establish a meaningful relationship with God by showing different dimensions of Jesus’ life and mission.
Matthew’s Gospel is an excellent introduction because it connects Jesus to Old Testament prophecies, illustrating how He fulfills God’s promises. This book helped me grasp the importance of faith and obedience while highlighting key teachings like the Sermon on the Mount, which guides daily living.
Mark’s account is more action-packed and focuses on who Jesus is through His miracles and servant leadership. I found this Gospel inspiring as it shows Jesus actively healing and serving others—a practical example of living out love in action.
Luke’s Gospel offers hope and compassion, reminding us that Jesus cares deeply for every person, no matter their background or struggles. Reading this book personally reassured me that no one is beyond God’s grace, which is comforting during challenging times.
John’s Gospel dives into the spiritual depths of Jesus’ identity and His relationship with believers. It helped me deepen my understanding of God’s love and peace, encouraging a personal and heartfelt faith.
When reading the Gospels, it also helped me reflect on passages like the "Lord’s Prayer" from Matthew and stories like the healing of the paralyzed man in Mark and Luke, which demonstrate both Jesus’ authority and compassion. These stories brought the teachings to life and made the Bible feel accessible and relatable.
Overall, starting with the Gospels transformed my view of God from distant to loving and present. If you’re beginning your Bible study journey, these books offer an inviting path that balances historical context, inspiring actions, heartfelt compassion, and profound spiritual truths—helping you grow closer to Jesus and understand His message deeply.
