Where to start in the Bible ✝️

When we first come to Christ it can be overwhelming when first opening up the Bible, right?

The four Gospels—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John—introduce us to who Jesus is and lay the foundation of His story. Watching biblical animations helped me understand the Bible more clearly and sparked a desire to dig deeper, which led me to start reading it for myself.

A start is a start. The Bible doesn’t have to feel boring or overwhelming. Sometimes, it just takes the right approach to see how alive and meaningful it really is.

The four Gospels—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John—are ideal starting points as they center on the life, teachings, and impact of Jesus Christ. Each Gospel offers a unique perspective that collectively provides a rich foundation to understand Christianity’s core message. Visual aids like biblical animations can be powerful tools for beginners. They help bring stories to life and can deepen comprehension, making abstract or difficult passages easier to grasp. These visual resources often highlight major events such as the Last Supper, the Crucifixion, and the Resurrection, pivotal moments that provide vital context for Christian faith. Additionally, integrating structured Bible study methods like the S.O.A.P. technique — Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer — promotes deeper engagement. This method encourages readers not only to read but also to meditate on Scripture, consider its relevance to their lives, and connect through personal prayer. The Bible’s message is often layered and complex, but seeing it as a living document rather than a static text can transform the reading experience. Verses like John 15:5, where Jesus describes Himself as the True Vine and believers as the branches, emphasize the importance of an ongoing relationship with Christ to bear spiritual fruit. Understanding Biblical roles and relationships also enriches comprehension. Passages from Ephesians 5, for example, discuss loving leadership and mutual respect within Christian households, underscoring practical applications of biblical teachings. Finally, joining online communities and forums tagged with hashtags like #startingthebible and #walkingwithchrist offers support, encouragement, and shared experiences. Engaging with fellow believers who are learning and growing can help diminish feelings of being overwhelmed, reminding readers that a single step forward is significant on their spiritual journey.
