Christmas Tree Meringue Cookies 🎄
Ingredients:
4 large egg whites (room temperature)
1 cup sugar
Pinch of cream of tartar
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon green food coloring
Golden star sprinkles
Assorted white and gold sprinkles
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 200°F (93°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
2. In a clean, dry bowl, beat egg whites on medium speed until frothy.
3. Add the cream of tartar and continue beating until soft peaks form.
4. Gradually add sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, beating on high until stiff, glossy peaks form and the sugar is fully dissolved.
5. Beat in vanilla extract and green food coloring until evenly tinted.
6. Transfer the meringue to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip.
7. Pipe tree shapes (starting wide at the bottom and tapering to a point) onto the prepared baking sheets.
8. Decorate with white and gold sprinkles before baking (save the stars for later).
9. Bake for about 1½ hours, then turn off the oven and let the cookies sit inside until completely cool and dry (about 1 hour).
10. Once cooled, add a golden star sprinkle on top of each tree for the perfect finishing touch.
11. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
Tip: Add the star sprinkle after baking — if you put it on before baking, it will melt in the oven.
