I wish I knew THIS before moving out ✨

The best take away from moving out is just learning to prioritize what you need first and learning how long you can go without things.

I went without a TV for three months and a bed before I decided on those big purchases it wasn’t horrible. Have my iPad to keep me cozy. 😊

... Read moreMoving into your first apartment is such an exciting (and sometimes overwhelming!) adventure. I totally get it – suddenly you're responsible for *everything*, especially keeping your space clean and healthy. When I first moved out, figuring out the best cleaning products and routines felt like a whole new college course! I wish I knew then what I know now about tackling common challenges like mold, allergens, and just general germ control. One of the biggest lessons? You don't need to break the bank, but you do need the right tools. Remember that advice to “Get what you need not just what you WANT”? It totally applies to cleaning supplies. For basics, I've found some great deals on things like sponges and general multi-surface cleaners at dollar stores, just like you might grab staple pantry items there. Tackling Mold and Mildew: Mold and mildew can pop up anywhere, especially in bathrooms or damp areas. For an all-purpose cleaner that really works on these, I often reach for products containing bleach or hydrogen peroxide. Clorox Clean-Up with Bleach is a go-to for tough spots; it's super effective at killing mold and mildew, but always make sure to ventilate well and wear gloves. For less aggressive options, some natural brands use tea tree oil or vinegar, but I've found they take more elbow grease for serious mold. Always check the label to ensure it's safe for your specific surface. Keeping Allergens at Bay: If you have pets or allergies like I do, allergen sprays are a lifesaver. I've tried a few, and Clorox Allergen Spray does a decent job at neutralizing pet dander and other common allergens on surfaces. When evaluating these sprays, I look for ingredients that specifically break down allergens and for products that don't leave a strong residue or scent. It's not a magic bullet, but consistent use on upholstery, carpets, and even curtains can make a noticeable difference in air quality. The Mighty Toilet Wand: Okay, I used to think toilet wands were a bit extra, but trust me, the Clorox ToiletWand system is a game-changer for preventing the spread of illnesses. The disposable scrubbing pads are preloaded with cleaner, so you're not reusing a dirty brush, which is much more hygienic. When assessing toilet wand products, consider how easy the pads are to attach and detach, the cleaning power, and if the handle design is ergonomic. It makes keeping the toilet sparkling clean so much less of a chore! Safe Deep Cleaning with Bleach: Clorox liquid bleach is powerful, and it's fantastic for deep cleaning and sanitizing, especially for cold and flu germs. But safety first! Always dilute it properly according to the bottle's instructions. When using it on food-contact surfaces, make sure to rinse thoroughly with water afterwards. For deep cleaning, I usually do a bleach solution wipe-down of sinks, counters (if bleach-safe!), and even some floor areas. Remember to wear gloves and ensure good ventilation. Avoid mixing bleach with other cleaners, especially ammonia-based ones, as it can create dangerous fumes. How often? During flu season, I might do a full deep clean weekly for high-touch areas, otherwise, a good wipe-down with an all-purpose cleaner is usually sufficient. Keep an eye on surfaces for discoloration, especially with older apartments, as some materials might not handle bleach well. Moving out is a journey of learning, and mastering your cleaning routine is a big part of feeling settled and healthy in your new home. Hope these practical tips help you feel more confident about keeping your space sparkling!
