Am I the only one who thinks parents should never tell their kid

So basically whatever I’m sad or would do stuff my mom said something like oh it’s not about your feelings and you should stop having these feelings, but she never actually listens to you when I have to say something every time I’m actually tried to talk. She’s always like oh it’s not a bunch of feelings for you to get out of your feelings, but is that really something to say when your kid feels like she’s about to just give up on life because because I’ve tried to run away two times and now all she wants to do is blame this on the devices. I just need somebody else’s opinion on this.

4/6 Edited to

... Read moreFrom my experience and what I’ve observed, when a parent dismisses a child’s feelings by saying things like "it's not about your feelings" or telling them to simply stop having emotions, it can be profoundly damaging. Children need to feel heard and understood, especially when they’re going through difficult times. I remember feeling invisible whenever I tried to open up about my sadness or struggles, only to be told to just get over it. This lack of empathy can cause children to feel isolated, hopeless, and even consider extreme actions like running away. In today’s world, with the constant influence of digital devices, it's easy for some parents to attribute all problems to screens. However, while technology can impact mental health, it’s rarely the sole issue. The core problem often lies in feeling misunderstood or blamed for emotions they cannot control. Having a supportive relationship with parents, where feelings are validated and discussed openly, creates a safer space for children to share their challenges before they become overwhelming. I’ve learned that parents who acknowledge their child’s feelings—whether sadness, anxiety, or frustration—help foster resilience and trust. It's important for parents to listen actively, avoid minimizing emotions, and consider professional help if their child feels like giving up. Mental health is just as vital as physical health, and treating emotional well-being with the same care can make a profound difference. If you’re a parent or caretaker, ask yourself: how do you respond when your child expresses difficult emotions? Are you dismissing or truly listening? Sometimes, changing just a few words from "stop feeling that way" to "I’m here for you, let’s talk about it" can help save a child from feeling alone. Remember, empathy and validation are powerful tools in supporting children’s mental health and overall well-being.
