Grieving during the Holidays 💔🙏🏽👼🏽💜

Everyday will be different. I’ll start there. I took PTO days to have some “me” time and enjoy the Holidays as 2023 came to a close but got hit with devastating news that my Best Friend from high school wasn’t doing well in the hospital. She struggled with sickle cell her whole life so usually, we don’t think the next hospital visit would be the last. Once I got this news, I knew my Holidays wouldn’t be a joyous one. She ended up passing away 2 days later and it was heartbreaking because I was honestly hoping for a miracle and that things would get better for her.

I went through an array of different emotions so far and I’m sure I will for a while. I especially struggled on NYE because this is not how I expected my year to end. Our relationship wasn’t perfect and we went through our share of trials and tribulations as friends, but regardless of that, you always want the very best for the people you love no matter what. We haven’t made it to her memorial yet and that’s still being planned, but this is the second time I found myself grieving during the holidays and it’s truly no fun. It sucks the life out of you and is very overwhelming when it’s a time you want to be happy and feel good. My first experience was back in 2018 when my Dad passed away unexpectedly from complications after getting pneumonia.

My purpose for this post is to support others that may be going through the same thing at this time. I truly hope that you get through it and you are not alone! 🫶🏽 Unfortunately death is apart of life and it’s something we all have to experience although we’ll never want to or get used to it. At this time I am trying to give myself the grace and space to process my feelings and take it day by day, that’s all you can really do. I’ll always miss her and cherish our special times together. I’m grateful I had the opportunity to experience her and love her! Rest well Aliscia. 🩷 #griefjourney #grieving

... Read moreGrieving during the holidays is a profoundly challenging experience many individuals face. During what is usually a joyful time, the loss of a loved one can feel even more acute. It's essential to allow yourself to feel and express your emotions, whether that means crying, reminiscing, or simply giving yourself the space to feel sad. Engaging with friends or support groups can also be incredibly beneficial, allowing you to share your feelings and experiences related to your loss. Consider creating memorial traditions, such as lighting a candle or sharing stories about the person you've lost, which can provide comfort and connection during the holidays. While the pain may feel overwhelming, remember that it's okay to seek help and find healthy ways to cope. Lack of organization during this period can lead to additional stress, so make a plan that accommodates your emotional needs. Take things one day at a time, and prioritize self-care. Whether through journaling, therapy, or other forms of creative expression, find a means to let out your feelings and process your grief. Everyone's journey is unique, and it’s important to honor your own pace as you navigate this difficult time.

Grieving the loss of someone who’s still alive
Losing someone important to you due to their own choices can be one of the most difficult experiences any human could endure. The sheer part of letting go is the hardest. Why would you let go of someone that’s still there? Doesn’t that show YOU’VE given up? Or maybe you agree to the choice as well?

I lost my mom last year in June. It has been one of the hardest seasons of my life. Sometimes I wish I could wear a sign that says “handle with care” or wish that people still wore black clothing as a sign that they were grieving. There have been times that I haven’t dealt with the struggle well an

You think you’re ANGRY. But you’re grieving 🤔
Underneath anger… there’s always grief. And no one ever taught you how to tell the difference. You weren’t “too emotional.” You were grieving. And no one noticed. They said you had “anger issues.” But no one ever asked what your rage was protecting. No one ever saw the child in the fire.
