Car camping at Arches National Park !!!

Quick overnight to the Arches National (not state) Park !!!! Car camping with my best friend is always a good idea :))

... Read moreSo, you're dreaming of car camping in Arches National Park? Believe me, it's an incredible experience, and I definitely recommend it! But to answer that burning question: 'Can you camp in Arches National Park?' – yes, you absolutely can, but it requires a bit of planning and knowing the ropes. My best friend and I managed a fantastic quick overnight trip, and while it felt spontaneous, we did do some homework beforehand. The park only has one designated campground, Devils Garden, and spots there are incredibly hard to snag. They operate on a reservation system months in advance, especially during peak season. If you're hoping for a drive-up spot for your car camping adventure, you'll likely be out of luck unless you're visiting in the dead of winter or have incredible timing! For car camping specifically, this usually means finding a spot outside the park on BLM (Bureau of Land Management) land, which is what many visitors do, including us. There are numerous free dispersed camping areas just outside the park boundaries, particularly along Willow Springs Road or the Dubinky Well Road. These are fantastic options if you appreciate a bit more solitude and don't mind roughing it slightly – no hookups or services, just raw desert beauty! Remember, you need to be completely self-sufficient when dispersed camping, meaning packing out everything you pack in, including human waste if facilities aren't available. Always practice Leave No Trace principles to preserve these beautiful places. When we went, we made sure our vehicle was ready for anything. We packed a comfortable sleeping setup, a portable stove, and plenty of water. It's truly amazing how much you can fit into your car to make it a cozy home for the night! Finding the perfect spot often involves driving around a bit, especially on BLM land, so arrive with plenty of daylight to scope things out. Another tip I learned: even if you can't get a spot inside Arches, a quick overnight car camping experience nearby still allows you to be at the park entrance early for sunrise hikes, which is absolutely magical. The stars from outside the park are also unbelievable – a whole different kind of light show! So, while 'car camping in Arches National Park' might conjure images of pulling up to a designated spot within the park, for most of us, it means finding a legal, beautiful spot just outside. It's all part of the adventure! Make sure you check the official Arches National Park website and BLM Utah for the most up-to-date regulations and fire restrictions before you go. This will ensure your trip is not only memorable but also responsible and safe. Happy camping, fellow adventurers!

Arches NP is about 3.5 hours from Salt Lake City, so you’re better off staying in the nearby town of Moab. Plus, you’ll also be able to visit Canyonlands NP, Dead Horse State Park & Corona Arch which are all nearby. From April - October, reservations are required for Arches National Park.
