The stuffing that made me break up with Stovetop

This rich, buttery, flavor-packed stuffing is everything the box wishes it could be. One bite and you’ll never look back. 💔➡️❤️

🥖 The Ultimate Sausage Stuffing

✅ What You’ll Need:

* 1 loaf hearty white bread, cubed

* ½ lb ground sausage

* ¾ cup butter

* ½ yellow onion, diced

* 1 carrot, grated

* 3–4 ribs celery, diced

* ¼ cup fresh parsley

* 3 tsp fresh sage

* 2–2½ cups chicken broth

* Salt & pepper to taste

👩‍🍳 How to Make It:

1. Dry the bread: Cut into ½" cubes and dry at room temp (2–3 days) or bake at 200°F for 1–2 hours.

2. Prep the veggies: Dice onion & celery, grate carrot and squeeze dry. Mince herbs.

3. Brown the sausage: Cook and drain on a paper towel.

4. Sauté veggies: Melt butter, cook onion & celery (2–3 min), then carrot (2 min), add sage.

5. Mix: In a large bowl, combine bread, parsley, sausage, and veggie mixture.

6. Add broth: Slowly drizzle in 1½–2½ cups broth until bread is just moistened. Season to taste.

7. Bake: Transfer to greased 9×13” dish. Cover and bake at 350°F for 30 min, uncover and bake 10–15 min more.

🍽️ The only stuffing you'll ever need.

... Read moreI know, I know – for years, many of us have relied on the convenience of pre-made options like Stouffer's stuffing. When holiday planning gets hectic, reaching for a box or a frozen tray can feel like a lifesaver. And don't get me wrong, there's a time and a place for convenience! But if you're looking for that truly special, unforgettable side dish that makes everyone ask for seconds, then homemade stuffing is the way to go. What I've learned from countless Thanksgivings is that your holiday table deserves better than what a box can offer. That's why I finally decided to ditch the store-bought stuff and perfect my own recipe. The difference is truly night and day. With homemade stuffing, you get unparalleled freshness – crisp herbs, savory sausage, and perfectly toasted bread, all mingling together in a way that just can't be replicated commercially. Think about the texture difference: a homogenous, sometimes mushy consistency from a box versus the delightful mix of soft, moist bread cubes and slightly crisp edges from a homemade bake. It’s simply *better*. You're in control of the ingredients, meaning you can adjust the seasonings to your family's taste, add extra veggies, or even try different types of sausage. For those who worry about the time commitment, let me tell you, making this HOMEMADE STUFFING is actually simpler than you might think! My biggest tip for making it Thanksgiving-proof is to do some prep work ahead of time. You can cube and dry your bread a few days in advance – an absolute game-changer for texture. Chop your onions, celery, and grate your carrots the day before, storing them in airtight containers. You can even cook and drain your sausage the day before! This breaks down the cooking process into manageable steps, making holiday morning much less stressful. Plus, the aroma of fresh herbs and butter filling your kitchen is a holiday bonus you just don't get from a microwave. Another fantastic thing about making your own stuffing is the ability to customize. While I swear by this sausage version, you could easily swap out the sausage for mushrooms for a vegetarian option, or add in dried cranberries and pecans for a touch of sweetness and crunch. Some people love a bit of apple or chestnuts in their stuffing – the possibilities are endless once you have a solid base recipe like this one. It's truly a dish you can make your own, reflecting your family's unique traditions and preferences. You can even adjust the moisture level to your liking, something impossible with pre-packaged options. Trust me, once you taste the rich, buttery, and deeply flavorful results of this homemade recipe, you'll understand why it's truly better than anything you'll find in a box or frozen aisle. It's a culinary experience that truly deserves a spot on your holiday table, year after year.
