Unpopular Opinion:You don’t need to fix everything

What We're Taught:

"Work through every emotion"

"Talk it out until it's resolved"

"Heal every relationship"

"Closure is required to move on"

but that's not always true...

What Actually Frees You:

• Accepting that not everything gets closure

• Choosing peace over control

• Moving forward without needing all the answers

• Letting go without overexplaining

... Read moreFor so long, I felt like I was constantly dragging a heavy weight behind me – a backpack full of regrets, unresolved conflicts, and 'what ifs.' Every time I tried to move forward, I'd instinctively look back, thinking I had to fix everything that went wrong before I could truly be free. It was exhausting, and honestly, it kept me stuck. I felt like that person trying to catch a floating tennis ball, always just out of reach, trying to control something that had already moved on. But what if we don't need to fix everything to move forward? What if, as I've slowly come to realize, sometimes walking away is the answer? We're often taught that we need to 'work through every emotion,' 'talk it out until it's resolved,' or that 'closure is required to move on.' And while open communication and resolution are often ideal, life isn't always neat. Some situations just don't offer that perfect ending. That's where the struggle to stop looking back really sets in. We keep replaying scenarios, searching for a different outcome, or hoping for an apology that might never come. This constant backward glance feels like a necessary part of 'healing,' but in reality, it can be a significant barrier to finding peace. Discovering that accepting that not everything gets closure was a game-changer for me. It’s like watching a sailboat glide on a dark ocean; you can't control the tides, but you can adjust your sails. This shift in perspective allowed me to start choosing peace over control. Instead of obsessing over what I couldn't change, I began to focus on what I could – my present reactions, my future actions, and my inner state. Letting go doesn't mean you don't care; it means you care enough about your well-being to release what no longer serves you. It means understanding that healing involves letting go. The idea that "sometimes walking away is the answer" can feel counterintuitive, especially if we're conditioned to 'fight for' or 'fix' things. But walking away isn't a sign of weakness; it's often a profound act of self-preservation. It can mean setting firm boundaries with people or situations that drain you, choosing to disengage from endless arguments, or simply deciding to no longer dwell on past hurts that are beyond your influence. Like relaxing on a green hillside overlooking water, there's a calm that comes from knowing you've chosen your well-being. It's about protecting your energy and directing it towards growth, not endless rumination. So, how do you actually stop looking back? For me, it started with small, consistent practices. Mindfulness helped me anchor myself in the present. When old memories or regrets surfaced, instead of diving deep into them, I'd acknowledge them and gently bring my focus back to my breath or my immediate surroundings. Journaling became a safe space to process emotions without dwelling, allowing them to flow out rather than fester within. I learned to reframe past events not as failures to be fixed, but as lessons that shaped who I am today. And one of the most freeing realizations was that I didn't need all the answers to move on. The text about "not always fixing the past or needing to understand everything" truly resonated. You don't always need perfect clarity or a full explanation for why something happened. Sometimes, the 'why' doesn't matter as much as the 'what now?' Embracing this uncertainty allows for genuine forward movement. If you're stuck looking back, feeling the pressure to fix everything, I hope my thoughts offer a different perspective. It's an unpopular opinion, perhaps, but one that has brought me immense peace. You are allowed to move forward. You are allowed to choose peace. And you don't need to fix every single thing from your past to do so. Let go, embrace the present, and step confidently towards your future.

This is so true! And this is a great reminder that sometimes we just need to let the control go. I have to remind myself of radical acceptance all of the time. If you remember that it’s completely beyond your control, it helps to accept it.
