why i don’t care i that i failed my CPAT

#lemon8diarychallenge i took my CPAT for the first time today and it’s honestly the hardest thing i’ve ever done. i made it half way through the test but the gloves were too big and wouldn’t help me grip on the rope! now that i know how the gloves are, i am going to practice with them and get used to the grip. if you have taken the CPAT i honestly applaud you and hope that you have a great future as a firefighter.

p.s. i know that i mentioned that the test is tailored to men and that is because the gear they give you to take the test in is huge. the gloves, hat, and vest were all meant for someone tall and strong, not saying that it’s only for men! #cpat #firefighting #fail #learning

2024/7/20 Edited to

... Read moreHey everyone! Building on my last post about my first CPAT attempt, I wanted to dive a little deeper into what this whole journey has been like and share some of the insights I'm gathering. It's easy to feel discouraged when things don't go as planned, but I truly believe every setback is a chance to learn and come back stronger. That's why, honestly, I don't care that I failed my CPAT on my first try – it just fueled my determination! First off, for anyone wondering, "CPAT kya hota hai" (what is CPAT?), it stands for the Candidate Physical Ability Test. It's a critical, standardized test designed to assess whether aspiring firefighters have the physical capabilities to handle the demanding tasks of the job. Think of it as an obstacle course with a purpose, involving tasks like stair climbing with weights, hose advancement, equipment carry, ladder raise, forced entry, search, rescue, and ceiling breach. It's meant to simulate real-life firefighting scenarios, and trust me, it's no walk in the park! One of the biggest "challenges and setbacks" I faced, as I mentioned, was the equipment. It truly felt like the gear, especially the gloves, was tailored to a much larger person. This is a common hurdle, particularly for women or individuals with smaller frames, making grip and maneuverability incredibly tough. What I've learned is that it's crucial to understand how the equipment will feel beforehand. If possible, try to get your hands on similar gear to practice with! For those oversized gloves, I'm focusing heavily on grip strength exercises – think farmer's carries, pull-ups, and using resistance bands. It’s not just about brute strength; it’s about control and adaptation. Beyond the gear, preparing for the CPAT is about holistic training. It's not just lifting weights; it's about endurance, agility, and mental fortitude. My "cpat training tips" include a mix of cardio (running, swimming, stair master with weight vest), functional strength training (compound movements like squats, deadlifts, overhead presses), and specific drills that mimic the test components. For example, practicing dragging heavy objects, simulating hose pulls, and getting used to confined spaces. Consistency is key, and I’m making sure to gradually increase intensity. And for anyone feeling like "why am I such a failure" after a setback, remember that this test is incredibly demanding. It's okay to not nail it on the first go! My biggest takeaway is to treat failure not as an endpoint, but as detailed feedback. I'm taking the lessons from my first attempt – particularly the grip issues and the sheer intensity of the stair climb – and integrating them into a more targeted "cpat test preparation guide" for myself. I’m breaking down each event, identifying where I struggled, and creating specific drills to improve. It's about visualizing success, but also meticulously preparing for the actual physical demands. So, while my first attempt didn't end with a pass, it absolutely jumpstarted my learning curve. I'm more determined than ever, armed with new knowledge and a clearer plan. Wish me luck on the next round; this firefighter dream isn't going anywhere!
