Attention Is Not Air.
Sometimes it’s not love you’re craving.
It’s attention.
And if we’re honest?
Attention can start feeling like oxygen.
A text steadies your mood.
A delayed reply tightens your chest.
Silence from them feels like emotional suffocation.
And before you even realize it, their consistency is regulating your nervous system more than your time with God is.
Jeremiah wrote Lamentations in the middle of devastation. Everything familiar had collapsed. And still he said,
“The LORD is my portion.”
Portion means source. Supply. Inheritance.
Not them.
Not their approval.
Not their choosing you publicly.
Psalm 62 says, “My expectation is from him.”
Expectation is powerful. Whatever you expect from becomes what you emotionally depend on.
This isn’t condemnation. It’s calibration.
God is not asking you to stop desiring love.
He is asking you to stop treating inconsistent attention like life support.
If someone’s attention feels like oxygen, your soul might just be spiritually dehydrated.
The good news?
God does not fluctuate.
He does not withdraw to see how you’ll react.
He does not ration reassurance.
When He becomes your portion again, relationships stop feeling like survival.
They become companionship instead of lifelines.
