Finally started working on my van.

I'm really excited to begin the build on my van. I lived in it for about 4 months with a no build setup. It gave me a good amount of time to see what I want and need. Ive adjust my build design to accommodate the additions I want.

The first picture is after I cleaned the inside. it had a couple of small rust spots. Those were sanded and painted. my paint job isn't very good but it will be covered with the build so I don't take much time with it.

The second picture is me making templates. Im so gald I did, even though it took forever, it made cuting the foam boards so much easier.

Picture 3 and 4 is me fitting those in place.

This is a journey I've wanted to be on for a long time and I'm so happy to finally get on this road.

Happy Travels

... Read moreIt’s such an incredible feeling to finally get started on my van build, and I totally get the excitement of transforming an empty shell into a personalized home. My journey started much like yours – living in it first really helps clarify what you truly need versus what you think you need. For me, that meant focusing on a solid foundation, especially when thinking about where my future 'chevy van bed' (or any van bed, really!) would eventually go. First off, that initial deep clean of the white cargo van's clean, empty interior was non-negotiable. It truly sets the stage. I found a few rust spots on the metal floor too, just like you did. Taking the time to sand those down and treat them properly, even if the paint job isn't perfect because it'll be covered, is so important for preventing future headaches. Trust me, you don't want rust creeping up under your brand new bed frame! It also felt good to have a completely fresh slate, seeing that spacious, ready-to-build-out space gleaming after a good scrub. Then came the insulation, which is a game-changer for comfort, especially for your sleeping area. Using cardboard templates for the floor was genius – it might seem tedious, but it saves so much time and material in the long run. I remember laying them out, just like you mentioned, and getting those perfect cuts for the pink foam insulation boards. It makes fitting everything so much easier when you're sure your pieces will match the contours of the van floor, especially around tricky spots like the wheel well. Seeing those pink foam insulation boards fitted into the rear floor, covering the metal base, really makes it feel like progress. This step is crucial not just for temperature regulation but also for sound dampening, which is a huge plus when you're trying to sleep peacefully. Now, thinking about the 'chevy van bed' or any sleeping setup is where the planning really gets fun. Since you've got the insulation down, you've already laid the groundwork for a cozy night's sleep. When I was planning my bed, I considered a few things: Do I want a fixed bed or something convertible to save space? How high should it be for storage underneath? And how can I maximize the usable space, especially with those wheel wells often dictating the layout? I've seen some amazing designs that build storage or even seating around the wheel wells, integrating them seamlessly into the bed platform. This kind of thoughtful planning in the early stages, while you're still dealing with the interior floor and insulation, will pay dividends when it comes to living comfortably. My advice is to sketch out a few bed layouts. Consider where your windows are, potential ventilation, and access to other parts of the van. The foam insulation you've put down is excellent for keeping the bed area warm in winter and cool in summer, which is vital for a good night's rest. It truly transforms the clean, empty interior into something much more habitable. Every step, even the small ones like sanding rust or cutting templates, builds towards that dream of a fully functional and comfortable home on wheels. Keep going – it's an incredible journey!

It’s all about consistency. At first it hurt so much, hip thrust used to kill me the most with cable kickbacks as well, only doing 5lb for one and 10lb for the other. Now I’m at 30-35 with hip thrust in that particular machine because it burns more then the two weights balanced on each side. Cable
