leaving something in the tank

2/28 Edited to

... Read moreFrom personal experience, I've found that the idea of 'leaving something in the tank' is crucial not only in physical activities but also in everyday life and work. Rather than pushing yourself to the brink, pacing your efforts wisely can lead to sustained productivity and better overall well-being. For example, when working on projects—be it building a garden bed or tackling daily tasks—I focus on doing my best but consciously avoid burning out by maintaining a reserve of energy. This approach reduces mistakes caused by fatigue and keeps my reactions sharp, similar to the concept of conserving energy for agility and clarity of mind. I also notice that small, consistent acts of self-care contribute significantly to maintaining this balance. Taking brief breaks, practicing mindfulness, or simply slowing down helps me avoid the trap of peak mediocrity—where one settles for minimal effort just to get by. The metaphor of 'fuel in the tank' is a helpful reminder to assess my limits and strive for a wide enough margin to avoid probation—meaning not pushing so hard that quality or health suffer. It aligns with the benefits of having clearer focus and better sound decision-making, which ultimately leads to greater satisfaction and passion in whatever I do. In gardening, for example, just as I build the base for my raised bed to support healthy carrot growth, I build a strong foundation of energy management and self-care to support all my efforts. This holistic view underscores why leaving something in the tank isn’t about being lazy; it’s about setting yourself up for long-term success and joy in your work and personal life.

No one tells you how quiet it gets when you start leaving grief.
You don’t “get over” grief… you start walking out of it. Grief doesn’t end in a moment. It loosens. It used to sit on your chest. Now it visits your throat. Then your thoughts. Then… only certain days. And one day you notice— you went hours without it. Not because you forgot. But
