My daughter , now 8 .

My dear rose 🌹

I realize more and more how I mistakenly thought it was me who was the teacher when in reality I believe I learn way more from her than she could ever from me .

💕It’s amazingly hard being a mom so please if you read any further have compassion.

🌹My rose has been different since I could remember, different than what I “remembered’ being used to . She didn’t talk or say momma until she was 3 . There were some fabrics and textures she liked and would wipe everywhere and some she couldn’t stand .

Around 3 the behavior got aggressive and destructive.

🌹The last 5 years I cannot tell if it’s gotten better or if the behavior has just grown with her into different phases .

🌹But for years I figured it was something I was doing wrong . Someway she wasn’t feeling heard or maybe I didn’t have a good discipline technique, it had to be something I was doing .

🌹I’m left often during and after episodes feeling depleted, and as though I have no idea what to do . After exhausting every known healthy option the emotional bank starts throwing the unhealthy ones at you . Those parenting tools i said i never wanted to use come out when I feel completely helpless.

& now after a long battle to support my child through self regulating a hard time . I need to do some de escalation myself .

... Read moreBeing a mother can feel overwhelming, especially when faced with challenges that differ from typical expectations. Many parents grapple with feelings of inadequacy when their children don't fit societal norms. My daughter, who has unique sensitivities, taught me more than I ever anticipated. At three, she began exhibiting behaviors that puzzled me—her aversions to certain textures and communication difficulties. It led to moments of despair, making me question my parenting abilities. Through my experiences, I learned the importance of patience and compassion, not just towards my child but also towards myself. Parenting is often about finding strategies to connect and support our children without losing our essence. Seeking support groups, like #unfilteredlife or #honestmotherhood, helped me find my community. These platforms offer solace and mutual encouragement, reminding us that we are not alone in our struggles. As I navigate this journey, I focus on understanding my daughter's needs through active listening and tailored approaches. Each day is a chance to learn and adapt, embodying the notion that motherhood is not a strict guideline but a unique voyage filled with highs and lows. Celebrating small victories and recognizing challenges can transform feelings of helplessness into empowerment. Remember, you are doing your best, and it's okay to seek help and embrace vulnerability in your parenting journey.
