Postpartum anxiety had me holding onto every safe sleep rule, so my two year old has been team no pillow, no blanket… until today. 🥹 Watching him snuggle up with his little blanket might have healed a tiny piece of me too. 🤍

... Read moreAs a parent navigating the challenges of postpartum anxiety, I found myself strictly adhering to every safe sleep guideline, especially when it came to my toddler’s sleeping habits. For the longest time, my two-year-old had been without a pillow or blanket, reflecting the anxiety-driven need to keep him as safe as possible while asleep. However, today marked a turning point when I saw him cuddle up with his little blanket, a simple but powerful moment of reassurance and comfort. From personal experience, I understand how postpartum anxiety can make every decision feel high stakes, especially around sleep safety, where parents often feel torn between comfort and caution. But witnessing my child embrace that small blanket helped me realize that it’s okay to let go a bit and allow some softness—both literally and metaphorically—into our lives. It’s essential to remember that safe sleep guidelines are there to protect, but as children grow and develop, their needs change too. Integrating items like a muslin blanket approved for toddlers or a toddler-sized pillow can gently ease the transition while maintaining safety. This balance helped restore a sense of normalcy, improving not just his sleeping habits but also easing my anxiety about his well-being. My journey taught me that motherhood is filled with small victories that often come with emotional healing. Every parent grappling with postpartum anxiety should give themselves grace and recognize those beautiful moments—like a child snuggling a blanket—for the comfort and hope they bring. This experience didn’t just mark a milestone for my toddler; it helped heal a piece of me as well.
