How much I can eat after bariatric surgery!
| get a lot of questions about how much I can eat and how long it takes me to eat after getting bariatric surgery 7 months ago. Today was better than most!
I really thought I wouldn't be able to eat all of this but I guess I was hungrier than I thought 🤷🏼♀️ (even though it still took me almost an hour to eat it 😅). The biggest piece of advice I can give y'all is to take breaks often and listen to your body! I start to burp a lot when I get full and that's when I stop eating! @Chick-fil-A
Having undergone bariatric surgery myself, I understand how challenging it can be to adjust to new eating habits. At around seven months post-surgery, I noticed significant changes in both how much I could eat and how long it took me. Initially, my meals were small and very slow—a necessity to avoid discomfort and complications. Over time, my appetite gradually increased, and I was able to eat a bit more, but patience remained essential. One key aspect I've learned is to eat slowly and take regular breaks during meals. This helps me listen to my body's signals, such as fullness or the need to stop because of burping or mild discomfort. These cues are critical because they prevent overeating, which can cause stomach pain or nausea after surgery. I also found that keeping a food journal with timestamps for each meal helped me track how long I took to eat and the amount consumed. This technique not only helped me stay within healthy limits but also allowed me to notice improvements in appetite and digestion over time. Another tip is to prioritize nutrient-dense foods to ensure you're getting enough vitamins and proteins without overeating. Foods high in protein and low in sugar or fat are ideal in this phase of recovery. Lastly, social support and sharing experiences have been invaluable on this journey. Joining online forums or groups where people discuss bariatric surgery and post-op eating allows for exchanging advice, recipes, and encouragement. Overall, eating after bariatric surgery is a gradual process that requires mindful attention and flexibility based on how your body responds. By listening to your body, pacing yourself, and choosing the right foods, you can successfully adapt and continue progressing toward your weight loss goals.
