Things for your next relationship 🫶

Hi friends 🍋

The beginning of a relationship is a very exciting time. It’s filled with new experiences, butterflies, and getting to know the person you might spend the rest of your life with. It shouldn’t be taken TOO seriously, but it’s also the time that sets the stage for the rest of your relationship.

The main thing I would focus on if I were back in the dating world would be to simply be myself and get to know the other person. However, I would also keep these five things in mind as I progressed into a new relationship.

1️⃣ Be Clear About the Important Things

Discuss major topics like religion, children, thoughts on marriage, etc., early on. Bringing up these matters early ensures that you don’t enter a relationship that will inevitably end due to disagreements on these issues. If you align on these things, the rest of the relationship will be much easier.

2️⃣ Leave the Past Behind

The solid foundation for building a relationship will not be found in your past relationships. Your new partner didn’t cheat on you, belittle you, or treat you poorly… your ex did. Don’t bring the past into the present. Be aware of red flags, but don’t start seeing red just because that’s what you’re used to.

3️⃣ Incorporate Them into Your Life, Don’t Make Them Your Life

A strong relationship foundation should be built upon the life you’re already living. You don’t need to build an entirely new life around your new relationship. They should fit into your life in a way that almost feels seamless. Your schedule, friendships, and hobbies might shift slightly, but they shouldn’t completely change.

4️⃣ Hold Nothing Back

If you can’t be yourself at the start of a relationship, you’re building it on a false premise. Be silly, make stupid jokes, ask dumb questions, and be authentically yourself!

5️⃣ Don’t Date Potential

Don’t base your relationship on hopes and dreams for who your partner might become one day. Assume that the things that annoy you about them won’t change over time, and don’t try to change them! Date the person sitting in front of you, not the person you hope they might become.

... Read moreEntering a new relationship can be thrilling yet daunting, and understanding the dynamics involved is essential for long-term success. The first step is to be clear about important topics, such as values, family planning, and beliefs. Initiating these discussions early can prevent future conflicts and ensure both partners are aligned. Leaving the past behind is equally crucial. Every new partner deserves a fresh start, free from the shadows of past relationships. It's important not to project past grievances onto a new partner, as this may lead to misunderstandings. Building a relationship based on the realities of the present can create a positive atmosphere for growth. Incorporating your partner into your existing life is another factor that fosters stability and security. Relationships thrive when they blend seamlessly into your life rather than becoming its sole focus. This approach allows both partners to maintain their individuality while growing together. Being open and authentic from the beginning is vital. Sharing vulnerabilities and experiences can enhance intimacy and connection. Letting your true self shine encourages your partner to do the same, fostering a deeper, more meaningful bond. Moreover, dating potential can be tempting but should be avoided. Embrace your partner as they are, and be realistic about the traits that concern you. In sum, navigating the early stages of a relationship with honesty, clarity, and a solid understanding of each other can lay the groundwork for a lasting partnership. Emphasizing these foundational elements will make the journey enjoyable and fulfilling for both partners.

keeping things private in a relationship 🤫💕
My boyfriend and I have something called our VAULT. It’s not an actual physical vault, but a mental vault! Basically, when we tell each other something is “vaulted” or “goes in the vault,” that means that it does NOT leave the relationship. For example, I have a LOT of vaulted embarrassing stories.
