If youve missed the cutoff - for young trees - remove figs, but no cutting of wood until next dormancy. #busychrisgardening #figtree #southernhemispheregardening #gardeninginmelbourne

View of turning compost with Meta glasses. I have come across some compost snobs and it turns out compost can be a touchy topic - some people have it down to an exact science while others - even experienced gardeners! -are just learning as they go. I’m keen to hear struggles and tips so we can all

I spend so much time in front of the fruit trees and so many thoughts go through my mind. I didn’t buy any tree as I I already have plenty, but if I don’t have any I would have bought one. #busychrisgardening #southernhemispheregardening #nectarinetree #melbournegardener

seeds to sow first month spring - Melbourne
Melbourne is a cool/temperate climate. I err to the side of cool as we still have some cold mornings and evenings. If its not warm enough palnta can struggle outside and you might find you have to keep potting them up until the soil warms up. I have planners for sale for most climates within Austr

Some yoghurts in the supermarket have thickeners to maintain a longer shelf life. We go through a lot of yoghurt in my household. I don’t know how much $$ these dehydrators are at the moment, but for me well worth it. I had to try and speak softly as people were still sleeping #busychrisgardening

Growing celery takes patience—and a lot of water! Beneath those lush green stalks is a massive, network of roots constantly drinking. Keep the soil moist, and you'll harvest pure crunch. #busychrisgardening #southernhemispheregardening #gardeningtips #celery #growingcelery

This tree is still very small to produce fruit, but fruit trees are a long game. I don’t like peach skin but I love the flavour of the flesh and would be so tasty to make jams/compote or use in baking and pastries. #busychrisgardening #peachtree #southernhemispheregardening #gardeningtips

Blanching is what you need to do to get those super pale, tender bulbs. Mounding the soil around the base blocks out sunlight keeping the bulbs crisp and sweet. #busychrisgardening #fennel #blanchingfennel #southernhemispheregardening #gardentips

I’ve been seeing this stuff for a bit but not sure how long they’ve been there. At least you don’t always have to go to a garden centre for one item. #busychrisgardening #colesgardening #southernhemispheregardening #gardenertips

Peppers can be "overwintered" and I've done it, but I didnt do it this year because I still had some on the plant and just left them. I'm curious to know if anyone in tropical climates grow them all year round and are successful. #peppers #busychrisgardening #southernhemispher

August is a great time to plant potatoes. They start to sprout now and as the greens grow up top, the october rains will water them beautifully. #busychrisgardening #potatoes #southernhemispheregardening
