things you NEED for college

(that no one talks about) #college #collegelife #dormdecor

1. cold medicine (day and night)

—— i cannot stress this enough. even if you’re never sick. even if you don’t think you’ll need it. you will. college is a huge place where you get lots of exposure to lots of people from lots of places. you will get sick. my freshman year, i think i was not sick for maybe a month ? frat flu is REAL!

2. a giant bottle of ibuprofen

—— hangovers. stress headaches. sicknesses. anything. i have needed this so many times and many of my friends have too so it’s good to have enough for it all. i bought a big bottle and two years later its still going strong!!

3. lap desk

—— i use this for homework, i eat on it, i roll 🍃 on it, honestly just so helpful and it’s always being put to use.

4. power strip

—— obviously, you’ll want more outlets. BUT, it is also important to have one that stands up (the ones on the floor get tripped on, take up more space, and are so hard to hang up). a surge protection and on/off switch is required at most schools due to fire safety checks so definitely make sure it has one of those! also usb/usbc outlets for when you can’t find that dumb box 🙄

5. windshield cover (if you drive)

—— saves me so much time going to class when i don’t have to scrape my windshield in the cold for 30 minutes. more sleep🤩

6. a planner you love

—— helps be more productive, gather your thoughts, and assures you get everything done that you need to! i have adhd and depression, so having a planner really helps me get motivated and figure out what i need to do

7. plug in air freshener

—— candles aren’t allowed (fire hazard) and the room sprays i find to be a bit too strong and then completely disappear. these are also refillable and make your room smell nice but not overpowering. keep in mind that you’re living with a stranger most likely, and you don’t know how they’ll smell.

8. tissues

—— from makeup to being sick to cleaning, you always need a stock of tissues.

9. a light up mirror

—— the overhead lights are often very yellow and bright, so having another light source that’s adjustable is great. also great for makeup and getting ready. at my college, there is only one mirror provided and it’s big and attached to a closet so having another is helpful and my roommates and i all use it.

... Read moreWhen heading to college, it's essential to pack items that will make your life easier and more comfortable. Starting with health-related supplies, consider packing a well-stocked medicine kit. Cold medicine and a large bottle of ibuprofen can be lifesavers during tough weeks of exams and social events when 'frat flu' hits. Don't forget practical items like a sturdy lap desk, especially if you study in various locations on campus. A reliable power strip with USB outlets is vital for keeping all your devices charged and ready. Beyond academics, comfort and ambiance matter, so a plug-in air freshener will help keep your living space inviting without the fire risk associated with candles. A stylish planner isn't just for organization—it's also a motivational tool to help you manage your time effectively. Finally, simple items like tissues and a light-up mirror for those early mornings will enhance your daily routine and well-being. Remember, these essentials go beyond typical college supplies, focusing on your health, comfort, and success!
