I’ve heard countless people say they’re not “good enough” to do the Open - which is just not true!!

it’s not just for Games athletes- it’s a chance for the everyday crossfitter to experience competing, have fun with your community and put the training you’ve been doing all year to the test👀 you also get to compare your rankings to the previous year if you’ve done it before!

if there’s an exercise you can’t do yet - you can scale the movement/weight. so why not try?!

it’s great bc it really shows you what you need to work on. sometimes a movement will come up that you haven’t unlocked yet - so it motivates you to have it for next years Open✨

movements that last year motivated me to work for that I now have:

- butterfly pull-ups

- chest to bar pull-ups

- double unders

- more consecutive wall balls

- much better clean, snatch and thruster technique vs last year (still working on it tho lol)

this years Open has motivated me to keep working on the muscle up (both bar and ring👀) and to get stronger so thrusters aren’t so horrible next time 😂

if you did it this year how did it go?! if not, are you planning to try next year?

From my personal experience, it’s not about being the fittest or strongest in the gym; it’s about pushing your limits and embracing the community spirit. One of the most important lessons I learned is that it’s perfectly okay to scale movements or weights to suit your current abilities. This approach not only makes the workouts accessible but also allows you to challenge yourself progressively without the risk of injury. For example, during the Open, some exercises felt truly daunting at first—thrusters and muscle-ups especially. However, breaking them down into manageable progressions helped me build the necessary strength and technique. Scaling thrusters’ weight initially gave me confidence, and gradually increasing it improved my performance dramatically. Similarly, practicing scaled muscle-up progressions led to steady gains toward achieving the full movement. Another motivating aspect is tracking your year-over-year rankings and personal bests. Seeing improvements like mastering butterfly pull-ups, double unders, and more consecutive wall balls gave me a tangible sense of accomplishment. The Open also exposed gaps in my training, prompting me to focus on weaker areas like clean and snatch techniques. This targeted focus not only enhanced my skills but also deepened my appreciation for functional training. Joining the Open also connects you to a vibrant community. Competing alongside others who share your passion, supporting each other through tough workouts, and celebrating even the smallest victories fosters a strong sense of belonging. It’s a reminder that CrossFit is as much about community as it is about individual achievement. If you’re considering trying the Open next year, I encourage you to view it as a personal challenge and a celebration of your fitness journey, rather than a test of perfection. Take advantage of scaling options, set realistic goals, and enjoy the process of continuous improvement. The CrossFit Open is truly for everyone willing to show up, have fun, and push toward their best self.
