... Read moreAs a fan of Sarah J. Maas’ works, I totally get how switching between her series can feel like a big adjustment. Coming from the Crescent City series, which has a rich, immersive world and complex characters, it’s understandable why jumping into Throne of Glass (ToG) might feel tough at first. The tone, pacing, and character dynamics in ToG can be quite different, which can throw off even dedicated readers. Many readers find the starting point of ToG slower or less engaging compared to the intense, fast-moving plots in Crescent City. However, the Assassin’s Blade novellas offer some great background and character development that connects well to the main ToG series. Whether or not you actually like Assassin’s Blade tends to vary — it’s often appreciated for the deeper insight into characters like Celaena Sardothien, but some readers feel it doesn’t hold up on its own as strongly. When I first transitioned, focusing on the strong elements unique to ToG helped me appreciate it more — such as its intricate political intrigue, evolving character arcs, and the way Maas weaves magic and adventure. It also helped to read some discussions and reviews from the community; seeing how others experienced the series gave me a fresh perspective. If you’re in the same boat, my advice is to give ToG some time and explore the related content, including the Assassin’s Blade stories, to get a fuller sense of the world Sarah J. Maas built. Engaging with online fan groups or hashtag communities can also provide encouragement and highlight aspects you might have missed. Over time, many fans come to appreciate both series for their distinct qualities rather than expecting them to feel the same. So, hang in there — the journey through both Crescent City and Throne of Glass can be rewarding in different ways!

…I may have found a new favorite bag! I have been rotating between the Free People Quilted Carryall as my every day carry/diaper bag. It’s comfy, it’s massive, and it has plenty of pockets… but when it comes to crossbody? It’s not big tata/plus size friendly. As I prepare for a family trip

Two girls, seen from behind, hold bouquets of flowers while standing in a courtyard with a pink building and other people in the background, encouraging sorority rush.
A spacious room is filled with numerous gift baskets arranged on tables and the floor, prepared for a sorority's 'big little' event.
Two decorated boards featuring various designs like an 8-ball, cityscape, and a cartoon character are displayed on a table with sunglasses and a phone case, representing a lawn pop-up shop.
RUSHING A SORORITY in college!
I know that making the decision to rush a sorority in college is difficult. You hear so many scary stories about girls dropping their sororities and not “finding their people” and I honestly felt the same way at first. I am so grateful that I gave my sorority a chance and stayed, because I am so ha

A mini-review of Sarah J. Maas's Crescent City book, rated 4.7 stars. It highlights the fantasy elements, world-building, slow-burn romance, strong female lead, and suggests reading ACOTAR first. Social media handles for @DORISBOOKRECS are at the bottom.

I honestly have no words. This book took me for a ride and even after I finished, I had to sit with my thoughts. This book is very fantasy focused; in part three is where we get a bit more romance but there is so much information and things we are still figuring out that we take a note of the roma
