I’ve been wanting to see the new mean girls musical but I’ve heard some mixed reviews!✨
If you’ve seen it, what did you think? Did it live up to the original? How was the singing and acting?? Was the elf ad placement really that obvious😂? Do you feel like it needs to be remade in the first place?🧐
Let us know what you thought about it, or if you plan on seeing it!
... Read moreOkay, so I finally caved and watched the new 'Mean Girls' musical movie, and wow, I had so many thoughts swirling! Like many of you, I grew up with the original, and the idea of a musical adaptation, especially one turning into a film, had me both intrigued and a little nervous. Could it possibly live up to the iconic status of the 2004 classic?
From the moment the opening credits rolled, I felt a familiar, nostalgic buzz, but also a fresh, vibrant energy. The songs were catchy, and while some of the original's biting humor was softened, the core message still resonated. I personally felt that the cast did a fantastic job embodying these beloved characters, especially Regina George, who brought a new kind of menace and charisma to the role. The singing was strong across the board, though I did find myself wishing for a few more standout vocal performances in certain numbers. It's tough to compare it directly to the stage show, but for a film adaptation, it held its own.
Now, let's talk about the elephant in the room – or should I say, the e.l.f. Cosmetics in the room! The elf brand makeup placement was definitely a moment, wasn't it? As someone who uses makeup, I noticed it immediately. It wasn't just a quick flash; it was a rather prominent scene where the characters are actively using e.l.f. Cosmetics products, almost like a mini-tutorial. We saw products that looked like their popular blush sticks, highlighter wands, and possibly even a brow palette being applied. It felt... well, integrated, but also undeniably an advertisement.
For me, it pulled me out of the movie experience for a moment. I appreciate brands finding creative ways to advertise, but this felt a bit too on-the-nose for a movie trying to immerse you in its world. It sparked a huge conversation online, and I totally get why. Was it really necessary? I guess it depends on your perspective. On one hand, it’s modern and reflects how often we see product integration. On the other, it could feel a bit jarring, especially when you're trying to enjoy a fictional world. It definitely made me wonder if they could have been a little more subtle, or if the brand was just leaning into the meme potential.
So, did the remake need to happen? Honestly, if it introduces a new generation to the story and sparks these kinds of conversations, then maybe it did. It's a fresh take, not a replacement, and I think there's room for both. If you're a fan of musicals, or just curious to see a different interpretation of a classic, I'd say give it a watch, but be prepared for a few modern twists – and that very memorable e.l.f. Cosmetics moment!
Please save yourself from the remake and watch the first one it’s amazing (I haven’t even watched the remake but the advertisements for it hurt my soul)
I have seen some of the new one and the old one, and definitely like the older one more. Tbh from what I've seen the new one looks kinda cringe, that's just my opinion don't come at me.
