Book Review: Just For The Summer by Abby J

Long live the toilet king! Just when I thought this book wasn’t going to bring everyone back together again it did! I enjoyed how sweet Justin was with his family. Emma’s story was heartbreaking but I’m glad she was able to the help she needed and was able to move forward. I love the way Abby writes about mental health !!

Also shout out to Neil from being an asshole in book 1 to having his house burned down and know he deserved that 🤣

... Read moreOne of the first things that drew me to 'Just For The Summer' by Abby Jimenez was its absolutely captivating cover. Seriously, I could stare at it for ages! It perfectly sets the tone for the story within. You see a couple, silhouetted, running through water against this breathtaking vibrant sunset. The green hills in the background give it such a dreamy, almost escapist feel. It instantly made me think of summer romances and new beginnings. Seeing it described as a #1 New York Times Bestseller and a GMA Book Club Pick just confirmed my initial thought that this was going to be something special. And that quote from Emily Henry? It just sealed the deal for me! It promises a story full of heart and emotion, and it definitely delivered. Speaking of heart, let's talk about the characters, especially Emma and Justin. Their journey is truly the core of this book. Emma's story, for me, was incredibly moving and raw. She's dealing with so much, and Abby Jimenez does such an incredible job of portraying her struggles with mental health with sensitivity and honesty. As a reader, I felt so deeply for Emma, wanting her to find the peace and healing she deserved. Her path to getting the help she needed and learning to move forward was inspiring. It wasn't an easy ride for her, and that made her triumphs even more resonant. Then there's Justin. Oh, Justin! He's just the sweetest, most grounded character. I absolutely adored his relationship with his family; it really showed his caring and loyal nature. He's that kind of person who makes you feel safe and understood. His interactions with Emma were just beautiful to read. Their dynamic wasn't a sudden, fairytale romance; it was built on shared vulnerabilities and genuine connection. I loved watching them navigate their individual challenges while slowly, almost hesitantly, leaning on each other. Their relationship felt so authentic and earned, a true testament to finding love and support when you least expect it. Beyond Emma and Justin, the way Abby Jimenez weaves in other characters and their transformations is also fascinating. Remember Neil? From being quite the antagonist in a previous book, seeing his unexpected development here added another layer of depth. It just goes to show how characters can evolve and grow, even when you least expect it. The overarching theme of mental health is handled with such grace and realism throughout the book. It's not just a plot device; it's an integral part of Emma's identity and journey, and it’s explored in a way that feels both educational and empathetic. This book doesn't shy away from difficult topics, but it always approaches them with hope and understanding. Overall, 'Just For The Summer' is more than just a summer romance; it's a story about healing, self-discovery, and the power of human connection. From the moment I picked it up, drawn in by that stunning cover and Emily Henry's endorsement, I was hooked. I truly recommend it if you're looking for a book that will make you feel, think, and maybe even shed a tear or two, all while rooting for characters like Emma and Justin to find their happy ending.
