today was a hiking day! 🌲🥾☀️

... Read moreHaving a birthday hike during my special week was truly the best decision I could have made. There's just something inherently magical about celebrating amidst nature's breathtaking beauty. If you're contemplating planning your own special 'Hiking Day' for a birthday, an anniversary, or simply as a way to treat yourself, I wholeheartedly recommend it! It’s not merely about the physical exercise; it’s a profound opportunity to disconnect from the incessant demands of daily life and to truly reconnect with your inner self in a wonderfully serene environment. The fresh air, the rustling leaves, the distant bird songs – they all contribute to an unparalleled sense of peace and rejuvenation. I find that these moments are when I feel most grounded and appreciative. When I meticulously plan a hike, especially for a significant occasion like a birthday, I always consider a few key elements to ensure the experience is absolutely perfect. Firstly, choosing the right trail is paramount. I look for something that promises scenic views but is also comfortably manageable for my mood and energy levels that particular day. It’s about finding that sweet spot between a challenge and pure enjoyment. Then comes the crucial task of packing essentials. Staying adequately hydrated is non-negotiable, so my reusable water bottle is always filled to the brim and easily accessible. High-energy, healthy snacks are another must-have, keeping my stamina up and preventing any mid-hike slumps. And, of course, comfortable, broken-in hiking shoes are paramount. There's nothing worse than blisters or sore feet ruining what should be a peaceful escape into nature, so I always prioritize footwear. For those of you who cherish bringing your furry companions along on adventures, thoroughly thinking about 'dog hiking essentials' becomes incredibly important! While my recent 'Hiking Day' was a solo journey into tranquility, I've had countless amazing experiences exploring trails with my beloved dog. If you're bringing your canine friend, always remember to pack their sturdy leash, a collapsible water bowl, extra water specifically for them (they get thirsty too!), and some of their favorite dog-friendly treats. It's also incredibly wise to research in advance whether the chosen trail is indeed dog-friendly and if there are any specific regulations, such as mandatory leash requirements or designated off-leash areas. Carrying a small, basic first-aid kit tailored for pets isn't a bad idea either, just for those unexpected minor scrapes or paw irritations. Their safety and comfort are just as important as your own! Beyond the very basic gear, I often find myself delving into research about new areas before I embark on a 'Hiking Day' adventure. It’s akin to doing a quick, informal check online to grasp the local atmosphere or to understand any unique geographical or community-specific aspects of a region. For instance, if you were planning a trip to an unfamiliar destination for a 'Hiking Day,' you might naturally look up local regulations regarding trail use, current weather conditions, specific trail features like elevation changes or water crossings, or even general area information to ensure a seamless and thoroughly enjoyable experience. Understanding a bit about the local landscape, whether it involves particular community guidelines for nature preserves or details about the terrain, can genuinely enhance your outdoor adventure and help you feel fully prepared for whatever comes your way. It’s all about informed exploration! Ultimately, whether it evolves into a solitary quest for profound peace and introspection or a joyous adventure shared with cherished loved ones (and enthusiastic pets!), dedicating a day to a 'Hiking Day' is an absolutely fantastic way to celebrate life, appreciate the intricate beauty of the world around us, and nurture your well-being. These experiences consistently fill my soul with such profound tranquility, invigorate my spirit, and bring immense joy. I’d love to hear from you: what are your absolute favorite items to bring on a hike, or what unique traditions or tips do you have to make a special hike truly unforgettable and memorable?

Hiking volcan Acatenango in Guatemala 🌋
This hike was definitely challenging 😅 total took about 9 hours, since i decided to do the volcan fuego hike right after getting to base camp. This is where you get to the closest point to see the lava at night and it was not easy at all! Probably the hardest part of the hike but well worth it.

Hiking with little ones (2 & 4 years old)
We spent a slow, beautiful day at Fort Mountain State Park, walking the Yellow Loop with our little ones — ages 2 and 4. 🍂 It took a bit longer with kids, but every moment was worth it. Our 2-year-old walked almost half of the way himself, the rest — in our arms. 🥰 The trail is short but rocky —
