When homemaking feels heavy!
There are days when homemaking feels like a joy, where the house runs smoothly, the meals are nourishing, and every corner feels like a reflection of love. But there are also days when that joy seems distant. The laundry piles up faster than I can keep up, the dishes stack in the sink, and every step feels heavier than the last. It’s in these moments, when I struggle to find the energy and question my purpose, that being a homemaker feels the most challenging.
As a stay-at-home mom, the roles I play seem endless. From cooking meals, to keeping the house clean, to nurturing my children, I often find myself exhausted before the day even begins. Pregnancy adds another layer of physical and emotional exhaustion, making it even harder to push through. Sometimes, the tasks blur together, and I begin to wonder, “Am I making a difference?”
There’s a silent pressure that comes with homemaking—the expectation that we should always have it all together. It’s easy to believe that if the house isn’t immaculate or if dinner isn’t made from scratch every night, I’m somehow failing. But that’s the struggle, isn’t it? That quiet doubt that whispers, “What’s the point of all this work?”
It’s in these moments that I have to remind myself that homemaking is not just about tasks or appearances. It’s about the atmosphere I create for my family. Even when I’m exhausted, when my purpose feels dim, I know that being present matters. My children don’t need perfection; they need love. And sometimes, love looks like takeout and unfolded laundry while we cuddle on the couch.
Finding purpose in homemaking is a daily journey. It’s about giving grace when things aren’t perfect and finding joy in the small, mundane moments. I remind myself that homemaking isn’t measured by how much I get done but by how much love and care I pour into my home.
So, on the days when I struggle to find energy, I pause and remember that my work is meaningful, even when it’s messy. And even when my purpose feels uncertain, I hold onto the belief that the love I pour into my home will last far longer than any spotless floor or perfectly cooked meal.
