Homemade Applesauce
Home Recipe
5 sweet medium sized apples
1/4 cup water
1 tbsp butter
3tsp cinnamon
3 tbsp sugar (optional)
1-2 tsp lemon juice
1-2 tbsp honey (optional)
Peel, core and slice your apples. I used cosmic crisp apples.
Place in a bowl and add cinnamon, sugar & lemon juice.
Mix it well.
Heat saucepan to medium heat and add butter or 1/3 cup of water if you don’t want to use butter. I used both because the butter seemed to burn faster. Water helped the apples get mushy.
Let simmer on medium low heat until the apples get mushy and soft. Add 1/4 cup of water as needed. I needed to at least twice to keep from burning and to help the apples get soft.
Take off the heat & and add to blender.
As you blend, add water as needed. This is where I added honey. Blend until you like the texture. This may take awhile if you like it super smooth.
Store it in a mason jar. It filled a mason jar just over 1 1/2 cups. It wasn’t a large mason jar. It should last about 7-10 days refrigerated.
This is not canned! I’m making this as we need it. My toddler loves applesauce. I assumed doubling the recipe will make you more applesauce but unsure of that effects how long it’ll last.
It was really good! My applesauce is a-little gritty but my kid likes it.
If you make it- tell me how yours comes out! If you have alternatives or another recipe, please share!!!

Additional Tips:
Make bird feeders out of your apple cores! Or use in compost. I ate my peeled apple pieces.
Also sugar is optional! If you get honey crisp apples, you may not need sugar or honey.
