WHAT I SPEND IN A DAY AS A COLLEGE STUDENT!💸🍋✨
As a college student, I'm constantly learning how to balance my budget and make my money last. While my original post gave you a peek into one specific day's expenses – from an unexpected flight booking to grabbing concert tickets – many of you might be wondering about the bigger picture: what do university students typically spend their money on, beyond just a single day? Based on my experience, and talking to friends, student spending generally falls into a few key categories. First, there are the Essentials. This covers housing, whether it's dorm fees or off-campus rent, plus utilities like electricity, heating, and internet. These are usually fixed costs, but they can vary wildly depending on your location and living arrangements. Then, of course, there's Tuition and Academic Supplies. This is often the biggest chunk, and it includes textbooks, online course materials, and sometimes lab fees or special equipment. Scholarships and financial aid are lifesavers here! Next up is Food, which is a huge one for most students. My day included a fairly substantial lunch – a "big spread" with chicken, green beans, and tofu salad – which can add up if you're eating out frequently. Many students balance campus dining plans with groceries to cook at home, which is a great way to save. However, those spontaneous trips for snacks, coffee, or a special dessert like the "Yi Fang" treat I had for $7.82 USD are definitely part of the student experience! Transportation is another big expense. For me, that meant an "air transportation charge" of $107.55 USD for a one-way ticket. Others might budget for public transport passes, gas money if they have a car, or even ride-sharing services. It all depends on how you get around campus and travel home. Then comes Personal Care and Shopping. This category is broad, covering toiletries, clothes, and those fun, impulse buys. Like finding a "Halloween costume" at the dollar store, or that "DRAGON SWEET CHILI" sauce for $2.84 USD – small purchases can definitely add up! Many of us also factor in expenses for haircuts, skincare, or gym memberships. Finally, there's Entertainment and Social Life. This is where things get exciting! My day included securing "Chase Atlantic" "concert tickets" for a total of $182.11 USD, which is a significant chunk. This category also includes movie nights, going out with friends, campus events, or even just streaming subscriptions. It's crucial for well-being, but it’s often the first place we look to cut back when budgeting gets tight. Managing all these expenses can feel overwhelming. What I've found helpful is using budgeting apps to track where my money goes, especially when I use services like "Paypal" for purchases. Looking for student discounts, cooking more meals at home, and being mindful of impulse buys (even at the dollar store!) can make a big difference. Sometimes, it’s about making smart choices, like opting for ticket protection if available, or just enjoying simple, free activities with friends. It's all about finding a balance that works for you!
