Cook Sunday dinner with us
This took us all day AND we kinda burnt it.
But was it still delicious, and did we have a blast?
HELL YEAH. #funwithfood #foodie #cookingathome #couplescooking #draftdump
Cooking Sunday dinner is one of my favorite ways to wind down the week, and this time, we went for something a bit ambitious: homemade pan-fried soup dumplings! If you’ve ever tried making these, you know it's a labor of love, but oh-so-rewarding. While our batch definitely had its 'character' (read: slightly burnt edges, haha!), the flavor was still incredible, and the whole process was an absolute blast. For anyone looking to dive into the world of pan-fried soup dumplings for their next Sunday dinner, here are a few tips I've picked up from our adventures, even when things don't go perfectly: First, don't be intimidated by the 'soup' part! The trick is usually using a gelatinized broth that melts into a soupy filling when cooked. You can buy premade dumpling wrappers to save time, or if you're feeling extra, try your hand at making them from scratch. The filling is key – a good mix of ground pork, ginger, scallions, soy sauce, and that magical gelatinized broth makes all the difference. When it comes to the pan-frying, a non-stick pan is your best friend. Heat a little oil, place your dumplings in a single layer, and fry until the bottoms are golden and crispy. This is where we sometimes get a little too enthusiastic, leading to those 'extra crispy' (aka slightly burnt) bits, but hey, it adds to the story! After crisping, add a splash of water (about 1/4 cup for a medium pan), cover quickly, and steam until the water evaporates and the dumplings are cooked through – usually 8-10 minutes. This steaming step is crucial for cooking the filling and making the wrappers tender. Even if your dumplings don't look picture-perfect, embracing the process and having fun is what really matters. Cooking together, especially for a relaxed Sunday dinner, creates such great memories. We've learned that a slightly charred dumpling or a misshapen one still tastes amazing when you've put your heart into it. Plus, it gives you a good laugh and a story to tell! If pan-fried soup dumplings feel like too much of a project for some Sundays, there are plenty of other fun and easy options for cooking at home. Think about a hearty pasta dish, a simple roast chicken with veggies, or even gourmet grilled cheese and tomato soup. The goal is to enjoy the food and the company, no matter how elaborate or simple the meal is. So, next time you're planning a Sunday dinner, don't be afraid to experiment and have a little fun with your food – burnt bits and all!
