once a peer of ours, a black person reaches a high pinnacle that we once thought was unreachable in our community we are no longer “relatable” as opposed to feeling inspired and using this as an opportunity to unify other black individuals and creators, we decide to speak negatively on them and bring down a black owned business. but i’m VERY sure if it was you in that position you would be FLOORED with joy that you were ever able to hit that high of a pinnacle. i want us to wake up and realize the place we hold in our community & going against eachother isn’t as powerful as coming together. i said what i said.
In our communities, seeing one of our own achieve remarkable success should serve as a source of inspiration and motivation rather than jealousy or criticism. When a Black individual attains a milestone considered previously unattainable, it is natural to feel pride and joy on their behalf. Unfortunately, too often the response is to undermine that success or disparage the person behind it. This phenomenon, where success leads to perceptions of being 'unrelatable,' can fracture the sense of togetherness needed for collective advancement. Instead of viewing a peer’s achievements as distancing, we should recognize them as a beacon guiding the way forward. Celebrating these accomplishments helps foster a culture where others are encouraged to strive for their own pinnacles. Moreover, supporting Black-owned businesses and creators is vital for economic empowerment within the community. Negative speech or attempts to bring down such ventures undermine not only the individual but also the broader economic progress. Encouraging collaboration and mutual respect strengthens the fabric that binds us. A unified community harnesses diverse strengths, creates opportunities, and forms powerful networks that uplift everyone. Going against each other only diminishes our collective potential. Recognizing the place we hold means valuing every success story and using it as a catalyst to inspire and elevate others. In embracing these principles, we awaken to the truth that unity holds far greater power than division. Let us choose to come together, celebrate Black excellence, and build an inclusive ecosystem where everyone flourishes. The path to progress is shared—lifting each other up leads to higher pinnacles reached by all.
