The Boyfriend Review

This book has been on my "read" list since it was announced. I've been very hesitant as well but I ended up reading the whole book in less than 3 days.

WOAH at the whole plot and double POV... It took me a little while to realize what was happening, but when I did.. I was completely hooked. There were multiple plot twist throughout the book and I won't lie... half way through I was fully convinced that I had it all figured out. But when it came down to the final plot twist... I was wrong and a little shocked.

The ending for me was a little lack luster... It was kind of one of those situations of "did that just happen after all of that...."

My next read will be: The Crash

⭐️Overall rating: 8.4/10

... Read moreI’d been seeing so much buzz about Freida McFadden’s 'The Boyfriend' online, especially with its striking cover featuring that chilling blood-stained red tie on a white bedsheet. As a huge fan of psychological thrillers, I knew I had to pick it up, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint in keeping me on the edge of my seat! From the very first chapter, I was completely absorbed. The way McFadden structures the narrative with its double POV is absolutely brilliant. It’s like getting two different lenses through which to view the unfolding mystery, and it constantly makes you question who to trust and what’s really going on. This technique really amplified the suspense for me, making it impossible to put the book down. I found myself reading late into the night, just needing to know what twist was coming next. The plot twists in 'The Boyfriend' are truly something else. Just when I thought I had everything figured out, Freida McFadden would pull the rug out from under me. There were multiple moments where I gasped out loud, completely shocked by the turn of events. I even remember thinking to myself halfway through, "Okay, I’ve cracked the code!" only to be proven utterly wrong a few chapters later. It’s that kind of clever, unpredictable storytelling that makes her a #1 New York Times Bestselling Author, and it definitely shines through in 'The Boyfriend'. The book cover itself, with its stark imagery, perfectly foreshadows the dark and twisted journey you're about to embark on. Now, about the ending… I have to admit, it left me with mixed feelings. After such a rollercoaster of suspense and revelations, I found it a tad bit anticlimactic. It wasn't necessarily a bad ending, but after all the build-up and jaw-dropping twists, I was expecting something with a little more punch. It was one of those moments where you finish reading and think, "Wait, that's it? After all that?" However, even with that slight reservation, the journey to get there was so thrilling and engaging that it still made for a fantastic read. Overall, if you’re looking for a fast-paced, twisty psychological thriller that will keep you guessing until the very last page (and even then, maybe a little beyond!), 'The Boyfriend' by Freida McFadden is definitely one to add to your list. It’s a compelling book review of human nature and deception wrapped in a truly captivating story. Just be prepared to question everything and everyone!
