Why I DNF’d This Book…
Guys, I have a book that I DNF’d hard and I’m going to share with you all why you should in no way, shape, or form buy or read or support this book or author.
First off, it is a book about mental health masking as a romance? Absolutely gross behavior on the author.
I also thought it would be a fun, lighthearted book? But NO! It’s heavy and dark and pretty sad with moments of levity. Why is this depressing AF? Unacceptable, if you ask me.
He also writes all the characters as stereotypes and archetypes for the first half of the book only to slowly break them down over the course of the novel to flesh them out? NO! What was this author thinking? I ignored the character growth completely to focus on the beginning Breakfast Club stereotypes.
This deals with characters with intense trauma having to learn to find beauty and hope and purpose in life again? And it all takes place in 24 hours? And we have to suspend our disbelief that this COULD EVER HAPPEN in a single day?! My black, cold, dead, and cynical heart could literally NEVER.
And lastly, this book is marketed as YA and the characters act and talk and behave like teenagers… which is annoying AF because I assumed they’d at least behave like the adult romcoms I read where everyone is in their late 20s and early 30s. Terrible execution and writing ruined a great story.
So yea… don’t read this book. Author stinks.
