I used to spend hours scrolling through genuine, creative content, but lately, my For You Page (FYP) has become a bit... stagnant. One of the biggest changes I've noticed is the algorithm. It feels like it’s pushing repetitive content or trying too hard to make certain videos viral, which often leads to a decline in originality. Remember when you’d discover truly unique creators? Now, it often feels like a cycle of recycled trends. I've also found myself less engaged watching others, and more focused on my own projects. For instance, I’ve been really diving into this build I’m working on, and honestly, the progress is *coming along fast*! It’s a completely different kind of satisfaction than endless scrolling. Another factor contributing to this feeling of decline could be the sheer volume of advertisements and sponsored posts. While creators need to earn a living, the balance seems to have tipped, making the user experience feel more commercialized and less authentic. When every other video is an ad, it naturally detracts from the organic, community feel that originally drew so many of us in. I even jokingly said to a friend the other day, after wrestling with a particularly tricky part of my project, 'Wow! This build is coming along fast! I said with joys... I was then shot 57 times...' because sometimes it feels like that kind of humorous struggle is more relatable and engaging than perfectly curated TikToks. The rise of other platforms or even just a general fatigue with short-form video could also be playing a role. People are looking for different ways to connect, learn, or be entertained. Maybe it’s about deeper dives into hobbies, like restoring a classic Ford Ranger 2021 model (just an example, but you get the drift!), or engaging with longer-form content elsewhere. We're seeing a shift as users spend less time passively consuming and more time actively creating or engaging in real-world activities. This isn't to say TikTok is 'dying' completely, but it’s certainly evolving, and not always in ways that keep its original user base captivated. I believe users are craving more genuine connection and less manufactured virality. If TikTok wants to regain some of its lost luster, it might need to rethink its algorithm and refocus on fostering authentic creativity and community, rather than just pushing whatever's trending.
