When social media makes me doubt my relationship…💭

I have a happy, healthy marriage, like, genuinely, I feel lucky to have what we have. But every now and then, social media gets in my head. I’ll scroll and see couples traveling the world, buying their dream homes, living this picture perfect lifestyle, and suddenly I start questioning if we’re somehow behind.

My husband and I are in our 30s, working hard, building a life we love... but it’s not always “IG worthy” . No big vacations or luxury moments, just real love, real moments, laughter, and a lot of figuring it out.

I hate that I compare, and I’m so grateful for what we have, but sometimes it’s hard not to wonder if we’re doing enough, making enough, traveling enough, etc.

Does anyone else ever feel this way? Like your relationship is solid, but social media makes you second guess it?

... Read moreIt's so easy to fall into the comparison trap, isn't it? I know I'm not alone in feeling like my "happy marriage" isn't always "social media worthy" when I scroll through feeds filled with seemingly "picture perfect" lives. But what we often forget is that real relationships aren't built on curated highlight reels; they're built on connection, understanding, and shared growth. Lately, I've been trying to refocus on what truly makes our relationship strong, rather than what social media tells me it should be. For anyone else wondering if they're "doing enough" or second-guessing their solid partnership, here's what I've found helpful: First, communication is key. Instead of internalizing those doubts, talk to your partner. We've started asking each other more open-ended questions, not just "yes or no questions for couples," but really digging into our dreams, fears, and even our emotional needs. Understanding what truly makes your partner feel loved and supported, and vice versa, builds an intimacy that no vacation photo can capture. Sometimes, just expressing "what making out feels like" to you, or sharing a silly memory, can deepen your bond. Second, define your own "love definition." Social media often paints a narrow picture of success (travel, luxury, grand gestures). But what does a fulfilling life partnership mean to you and your significant other? For us, it's about shared laughter over mundane tasks, supporting each other's careers, and finding joy in quiet evenings at home. It's about remembering that a life partner is important for the everyday, not just the extraordinary. Third, set realistic expectations and boundaries. No relationship is flawless, and acknowledging these "flaws in a relationship" openly can actually strengthen it. We've started being more intentional about our time together, almost like a softer version of the "7-7-7 rule relationship" idea – ensuring we have quality moments without distractions. This means putting down the phone and truly being present. It helps combat that feeling of "marriage isn't enough." Finally, remember that different "types of relationships" exist, and what works for one isn't a blueprint for all. Don't force your relationship into a mold that doesn't fit. Your unique journey, with its ups and downs, is what makes it real and invaluable. This focus on our own reality, rather than the curated one, has truly helped me feel more secure and less prone to the "comparison trap" social media so easily sets.
