His Work Hours Are Driving Me Crazy!!!

OK…I need to vent for a sec. My husband has always worked long hours, especially during his busy season, which I’ve learned to accept. But ever since we both started working from home, it feels like he’s working way more than ever. It’s been like this for YEARS now.

I’m talking until 1AM almost every other night. 😩 And it’s not like he's out of the house…we're literally home together all day… but still barely get any real quality time.

His brain is just glued to work from the second he wakes up until he finally logs off (if you can even call it that). I’m asleep way before he even logs off work on the days he does work late.

It’s really starting to get to me. Like, is this normal marriage stuff? Or is this a red flag I’ve been ignoring because I don’t want to seem “too needy”?

Anyone else been through this?

Is this a relationship problem… or just modern work culture?? Let me know in the comments.

... Read moreIf your partner working from home is driving you crazy, trust me, you are absolutely not alone. What started as a temporary measure for many has turned into a permanent blur of work and home life, and it's taking an emotional toll on so many relationships. It's easy to feel like you're being overly dramatic when you see other couples holding hands, but the constant presence without true connection can be incredibly isolating. I’ve been there, feeling the frustration build as my partner's work calls stretched into the evening, and emails pinged late into the night. It felt like we were physically together all day, yet miles apart. The lack of quality time became a huge stressor, and I found myself wondering if this intense focus on work was just modern life or a genuine relationship issue. Here’s what I've learned and what has helped me navigate these tricky waters when my partner's increased workload started to feel overwhelming: 1. Communicate, Don't Accuse: It's so tempting to lash out when you're feeling neglected, but that rarely helps. Instead of saying, "You're always working!" try expressing your feelings: "I miss spending time with you, and I feel a bit lonely when you're working so late." Frame it around your feelings and needs, rather than blaming. 2. Set Clear Boundaries (Together): This was a game-changer. We had to sit down and discuss what 'finished work' looked like. Maybe it's no work after 7 PM, or no work on weekends unless it's an absolute emergency. For us, establishing a dedicated workspace for him, even if it was just a corner of a room, helped mentally separate work from home life for both of us. The goal is to make sure his 'intense focus on work' has an off switch. 3. Schedule Dedicated Quality Time: It might sound unromantic, but sometimes you have to schedule connection. A daily walk after work, cooking dinner together without phones, or even just 30 minutes of uninterrupted chat time before bed. These small, consistent moments can make a huge difference in reconnecting and counteracting the feeling of a 'lack of quality time.' 4. Prioritize Your Own Self-Care: When your partner is glued to their screen, it's easy to feel like your needs are secondary. But this is precisely when you need to double down on your own well-being. Pick up a hobby, connect with friends, exercise, read a book. Having your own fulfilling activities can reduce the emotional toll and make you less reliant on your partner's availability for your happiness. 5. Understand the 'Why': Sometimes, the long hours are temporary due to a big project, a busy season, or career growth. Understanding the reasons behind the increased workload can help you both manage expectations and find solutions. Is it a temporary crunch or a permanent lifestyle? This conversation can help you determine if it's a phase or a potential 'red flag' requiring deeper discussion. Ultimately, figuring out if this situation is a 'red flag' or just a challenging phase of a modern marriage comes down to communication and mutual effort. If you both acknowledge the problem and are willing to work on solutions, there's hope for finding a better balance. You're not being dramatic; your feelings are valid, and seeking solutions is a sign of wanting a stronger, more connected relationship.

I think depending on what field he works in, would probably determine the situation. But regardless, I think it’s a red flag in the sense of his health and the life of the marriage. Meaning he should try to cut back if possible because he’s only hurting himself and y’all’s marriage. Whether or not he realizes that.

Realistically, I got my license when I was 18 years old. I was so scared of driving that I didn’t actually start driving until I was about 25 years old. I moved out of my parents house with my bf who is now my husband, and I made a deal with him that I would start driving if we could move out 🥹 it

Stop every 2 hours while driving!
While a two hour limit is best practice for everyone, it's even more important for our kids! Prolonged periods of time in the car seat can put a strain on developing bones and muscles and can even lead to lower than normal blood oxygen levels. As a fellow mama, I know this is a hard one.
