Sunday Dinner 🥘
Sunday dinners will always have my heart. ❤️ Growing up in Georgia, one of my favorite memories was watching my great-grandparents cook a big Sunday meal and seeing family gather around the table together. Today, I carried on that tradition with BBQ ribs, smothered turkey wings and rice, scalloped potatoes, fresh broccoli, fresh carrots, and homemade cornbread. Nothing brings comfort, love, and family memories together quite like a good Sunday dinner. 🥘🍖🌽Detroit

Growing up in the South, Sunday dinners have always been more than just a meal — they are a cherished ritual that brings family closer and celebrates heritage. From my personal experience, the aroma of BBQ ribs sizzling on the grill and turkey wings slowly cooking evokes memories of family gatherings filled with laughter and stories. One thing I’ve learned is that the essence of these meals lies in the effort and love infused into every dish. For example, scalloped potatoes, a classic Southern side, can be made extra creamy by layering thinly sliced potatoes with a rich cheese sauce, often prepared from scratch. Fresh cornbread, moist and crumbly, is the perfect accompaniment to soak up the savory flavors of the meat and gravy. Adding steamed fresh broccoli and carrots not only balances the meal with vibrant colors but also brings in essential nutrients to the feast. In my own Sunday dinners, I find that involving family members in the cooking process adds to the shared experience, strengthening bonds and passing down recipes through generations. It’s also important to create an inviting atmosphere where everyone feels welcome—be it through setting a simple yet warm table or sharing the stories behind each dish. Moreover, incorporating local ingredients and regional spices brings authenticity to the meal, just as my great-grandparents did back in Georgia. The timeless tradition of gathering around the table for Sunday supper is a celebration of comfort food, family-first values, and cultural roots, perfectly illustrating how food nurtures both body and soul.
