Study tips that helped maintain my college gpa

2025/7/18 Edited to

... Read moreOkay, so you've seen those 'perfect student' routines, right? But honestly, sometimes the most effective study tips are the ones that seem a little... unconventional. When I was deep in college, trying to keep my GPA up, my Harvard bestie shared some absolute gems that changed everything for me. These aren't just 'study tips shorts'; they're game-changers! First up, the *diss track on the subject*! Seriously, it sounds wild, but it works. My bestie taught me to pick my least favorite topic – for me, it was always the obscure historical dates in my history class – and literally write a short, funny, slightly sarcastic 'diss track' about it. You don't have to be a rapper! Just rhyming silly facts or making fun of the complexity actually helped me recall those dry details during exams. The humor creates a strong memory link that a boring flashcard just can't. I'd hum it before a test and suddenly remember that specific date I'd "roasted." Then there's *smell mapping with essential oils*. This one blew my mind. The idea is to assign a unique scent to each subject. For example, I'd use lavender for psychology, peppermint for math, and citrus for literature. Before studying a specific subject, I'd diffuse or dab a tiny bit of that essential oil. The magic happens during the test! A quick sniff of the corresponding oil right before or even during the exam acted like a mental trigger, helping me recall information tied to that scent. It really taps into your olfactory memory, and it's surprisingly effective for things like complex theories or vocabulary. Another one that felt super odd at first but paid off? *Whispering your notes like it's a scary movie*. Imagine you're narrating a suspenseful scene. Instead of just reading silently, I'd whisper my key concepts, emphasizing certain words or phrases with dramatic pauses. It makes the information stick because you're engaging a different part of your brain – it's like a mini-performance. My roommates definitely thought I was losing it, but my grades didn't lie! This odd delivery sticks surprisingly well, especially for complex definitions or processes that I needed to articulate clearly. And of course, the *TLDL Method (a Harvard favvvv)*. This app was a lifesaver! It records lectures and provides instant notes and study guides. It's like having a personal assistant transcribe everything, highlighting key points. For me, this meant I could truly listen and engage during lectures instead of frantically scribbling. Later, I'd review the AI-generated summaries and fill in any gaps with my own thoughts. It massively cut down my study time and made understanding complex topics so much easier. It's truly the key to a 4.0 without the burnout. Beyond these, I also found that teaching a concept to an imaginary student (or my very patient cat!) helped solidify my understanding. If I could explain it simply, I knew I truly grasped it. These aren't your average, boring study tips, but they're incredibly practical and fun. Give them a try – you might just find your own secret weapon for acing those exams!
