Last year I heard this word until I was tired.
Dell has clearly acknowledged that most consumers have not decided to buy new AI-related coms, as manufacturers expect. Even over the years, AI has become a hit word used by virtually all brands as the main selling point of the product, but Dell's actual experience reflects that the picture may not match the needs of ordinary users.

Kevin Terwilliger, Dell's head of product, interviewed Dave James of the PC Gamer website, mentioning the company's marketing direction at CES 2026 as having changed markedly from a year earlier. It used to focus heavily on AI communications. This year, Dell opted to reduce the role of AI in marketing after finding that consumers did not focus much on AI in their PC buying decisions.

He reveals that based on the data and fedback that Dell has received over the past year, shoppers do not choose products primarily from AI, and in some cases AI also confuses consumers rather than helps them understand what a product actually does or produces results. He sees too much of a marketing mode with the word AI does not boost sales, and may even have the opposite effect.

However, Dell insists that it has not abandoned AI development. Newer PCs still come with AI capabilities and NPU as an integral part, but the company has chosen to change the way it communicates, focusing on performance, functionality and cost-effectiveness.
