How To Study When You’re Always Tired!!

I'm one of those students that likes to relax all the time and take a lot of breaks but I still manage to stay on the Deans List every semester!!

All of my tips are in the post photos but I'll elaborate on some of my best tips here in the caption!

🚰Stay hydrated - this one is more important than you might think! Studies show that when you're hydrated, you are far more alert and awake than when you are dehydrated!

🏡Change study locations - this can help you stay alert by changing your environment. Instead of studying on the couch or in your bed, try studying at a local coffee shop. If you can't get out of the house that's ok too, I like to set up a study area in the kitchen or dining room sometimes when I am trying to change up my environment.

🍵Chew gum and use aromatherapy - thees can really help you stay alert because of the scent of mint or other fragrances. Certain smells can keep you awake and alert like citrus, peppermint, or eucalyptus.

⏰SAVE this post for the next time you're feeling too tired to study!!

... Read moreOkay, so we all know the feeling of hitting a wall when studying, especially during those long, late-night sessions when you're feeling completely drained. One game-changer for me has been implementing short, structured breaks. Instead of just procrastinating or zoning out, I try the Pomodoro Technique: work for 25 minutes, then take a 5-minute break. This really helps to refresh your brain, preventing that heavy, exhausted feeling from completely taking over. I use these breaks to stretch, grab a quick, healthy snack, or just step away from my books for a moment. It truly prevents burnout and keeps you from feeling overwhelmed by the sheer volume of work, helping you maintain focus even when your energy is low. Another tip I swear by when I'm feeling sleepy but still need to hit the books is listening to the right kind of music. While some people prefer complete silence, I find instrumental music, classical, or lo-fi beats really help me focus without being distracting. The key is to avoid anything with lyrics that you might sing along to, as that can pull your attention away from your studies. It creates a consistent background noise that can actually help block out other distractions and get you into a study groove, even if your energy levels are plummeting. It's a lifesaver for those times you're studying with coffee late at night. When my brain feels like mush, passive reading just doesn't cut it. That's when I turn to active recall methods, especially flashcards. Creating and reviewing flashcards forces your brain to actively retrieve information, making it much more effective than just re-reading notes. Plus, you can do quick review sessions even when you're super tired, making the most of those low-energy moments. I use them for definitions, formulas, and key concepts – they're a lifesaver for exams and help solidify information when your memory feels fuzzy from exhaustion. Let's be real, when you're exhausted, tackling a huge assignment feels utterly impossible. My strategy? Prioritize tasks and set tiny, achievable goals. Instead of thinking 'I need to write this entire research paper,' break it down: 'Today, I'll just outline the introduction,' or 'I'll read two articles for my bibliography.' This makes the workload feel less daunting and gives you small wins, which can be a huge motivator when your energy is flagging, especially when you're tired of studying and writing research papers. It's all about making progress, even if it's small, particularly during those student exhausted studying night sessions. And sometimes, the tiredness isn't just physical; it's mental fatigue from stress and overwhelming thoughts. Taking a few minutes for deep breathing or a quick meditation can work wonders. There are tons of free apps and guided meditations available. Even just closing your eyes and focusing on your breath for five minutes can help clear your mind, reduce stress, and give you a little mental refresh, helping you regain some focus to get back to your studies, even as a student studying focused late night. It’s about managing that exhaustion, not just fighting it.
