Preparing my son’s lunch while simultaneously getting him ready for ABA therapy sessions requires careful planning and patience. It's essential to anticipate meltdowns, especially when unexpected changes occur, such as when he learns he isn’t going to his best friend’s house. These moments test your ability to stay calm and supportive. One of the biggest lessons learned is the importance of community— it truly takes a village. Having reliable support, whether from family or close friends, makes a significant difference in navigating these challenges without burning out. Understanding that ASD has its ups and downs helps foster empathy and reduces judgment from others who may not fully grasp the situation. Finally, it’s important to recognize the value of self-care. Even with late work hours and a packed day, carving out small pockets of rest or moments for yourself — no matter how brief — boosts your ability to be present and engaged both as a parent and as an individual. Balancing work, family, and caregiving is demanding but also deeply rewarding, and sharing these experiences helps connect with others facing similar journeys.
