To get that classic, rich flavor, I always recommend using a good quality black tea, like Lipton or Luzianne, which are popular choices in the South. The sugar is crucial, too – granulated sugar is standard, and you'll want a generous amount to achieve that signature sweetness. Fresh, filtered water also makes a noticeable difference in the final taste. Now, let's talk about how to make southern sweet tea – the old-fashioned way, ensuring a smooth, strong, and perfectly sweetened brew. You'll need a large heat-proof pitcher, a saucepan, and a long spoon for stirring. Here’s my go-to process: Boil Your Water: Start by bringing about 4 cups of fresh, filtered water to a rolling boil in your saucepan. This ensures your tea bags will steep effectively.
