Another Small Step Toward Finishing Our Home
Today’s progress: more of the reclaimed gym maple flooring installed and another corner of the living room painted. I’m trying to get everything ready before we start building the stairs. It’s amazing how many little projects have to come together before a house finally feels finished. Slow progress is still progress!

Working with reclaimed wood, especially gym maple flooring, has been a rewarding experience in this home renovation. Maple is known for its durability and beautiful grain, making it an excellent choice for flooring that lasts. Reusing gym flooring not only adds character and history to the space but also supports sustainable building practices by reducing waste. Painting a corner of the living room might seem minor, but these finishing touches dramatically alter the home's atmosphere. Choosing the right paint color and finish can complement the warm tones of maple flooring and make the space feel inviting and complete. Preparing for stair construction involves ensuring all foundational flooring and wall work are solidly finished. It’s essential to coordinate these projects carefully to avoid rework or damage during later stages. Patience is key because, as mentioned, slow progress is still progress — each small step builds towards the final goal of a finished home. From my own experience, prioritizing reclaimed materials not only enhances the aesthetic but also contributes to a meaningful story behind every plank installed. If you’re on a similar DIY home journey, embrace the incremental progress and cherish how each project adds to your home’s unique character.
