⚠️LIE TO SURVIVE - Kids Edition⚠️

One of the most important survival skills we can teach our children is this: it's okay to lie if it keeps you sate.

Predators often use questions like "Where are your parents?" or "Do you live nearby?" to trick kids into giving away information. The truth is... kids don't owe strangers honesty.

Lying to survive isn't bad. It's smart, and it can save a child's life. Please share this with other parents.

... Read moreIt’s every parent's biggest fear: our child in a dangerous situation. While "stranger danger" is a common lesson, teaching our children effective self-protection goes much deeper. It’s about cultivating their ability to think on their feet and prioritize their safety above all else – even if that means bending the truth. I've found that empowering kids with specific strategies, rather than just vague warnings, makes a huge difference. One of the most powerful tools we can give them is the understanding that they don't owe strangers honesty, especially when their safety is at stake. For instance, if a child is approached by someone asking if their parents are home when they are actually "home alone," the answer should always be a confident "Yes!" My kids practice saying things like, "Yes, my mom's right here on a Zoom meeting," or "My dad's organizing the garage." This simple lie can create the crucial perception that an adult is nearby, often deterring potential threats. The same applies when they are "outside playing" or at a park. If approached and asked, "Are you here alone?" they should immediately respond, "No, my parents are right over there!" and then point vaguely towards a group of adults, even if they're strangers. It's also vital to teach them to never wait outside a school or mall for pickup. Always wait inside, in a "well-lit and populated" area, until the parent arrives or calls. This reduces vulnerability significantly. Another critical rule to instill is this: no adult should ever ask a child for help. This is a non-negotiable safety principle. If an adult approaches a child asking for assistance—whether it's to find a lost pet, carry groceries, or borrow a phone—it's a red flag. Adults who genuinely need help will always seek out other adults. In such situations, my advice to my kids is firm: respond with something like, "I'm expected home right now!" and then immediately turn and run to a safe place, like a store employee or another parent. Furthermore, in any scary or dangerous encounter, remember that "noise and distance are both your friends." We talk about the importance of creating a commotion. If someone grabs them, I tell my children to "scream bite claw kick" with everything they have. No polite resistance; it's about fighting back aggressively to create an opportunity to escape. And when they scream, it shouldn't just be a generic yell. They should scream specific phrases like, "This is not my mom!" or "This is not my dad!" at the top of their lungs to draw maximum attention. Believe it or not, even using a swear word can be incredibly effective at grabbing adult attention in a public space. Practicing these scenarios through role-playing helps build their confidence and muscle memory. It’s not about instilling fear, but about empowering them with the tools and confidence to protect themselves. By teaching them these practical, sometimes unconventional, self-protection skills, we equip our children to navigate the world more safely.

thank God you teach being a liar as truth is all about being afraid and not being able to really look after yourself if your alone. Are you really this conditioned to fear that this is a good thing!. My 5 1/2 year old daughter walked to school on her own after her training in a martial was completed.
