How I survive a 12hr shift as a CNA⚕️

ESSENTIALS✨

•Foldable Clipboard📋: You can get these from amazon I got mine for like $16 and I’ve been a CNA for a year now and it’s still good!

•Pens & markers🖊️: I love using colorful pens and markers when Im getting report and when Im writing down some reminders or notes, it just makes it more fun lol

•Water Bottle💧: Of course you wanna stay hydrated while working a 12hr shift

•HAND CREAM✋: Sanitizing your hands so many times all day is so drying on the skin and they end up looking all crusty, this is a must to keep them moisturized!

•Hair tie/clip: You definitely want to put your hair up especially when it gets messy😬

•Hair brush: You’ll never know when your gonna need to brush your hair🤷‍♀️

•COFFEE☕️: This is my holy grail to push through my shift cause waking up to work at 6:30am is not easy-

•Candy🍬: If for some reason my coffee isn’t working then I’ll eat candy throughout my shift to give me a sugar rush I personally love hi chews

•Toiletries🧴 : Simple things like lotion, deodorant, pads, tylenol or advil , body mist, lip balm, tooth brush, floss things like that just to be prepared

•Blue Light glasses 👓: When Im charting all day on a computer, I sometimes get a headache so having some blue light glasses help with that

•Powerbank🔋: I get mine from Tj Maxx I love the ones that are magsafe so you don’t need to carry a cord with you. And you’ll never know when you really need your phone and then it’s dead-

•Airpods🎧: When Im taking my break or my lunch these are a must cause I disassociate from the chaos at work✨

•Lunch bag👜: Having a cute lunch bag makes it just a little better, I use the Lululemon shopping bags lol

•Watch⌚️: I love using my apple watch I use it to count respirations, tracking time for post-op vitals and counting down the hours for my shift to end😀👍

•Bag🎒: I alternate my bags from time to time between cute canvas tote bags , a backpack, and my medium sized uniqlo bag

•Compression Socks🧦: These are a must, I get mine from amazon Walking and RUNNING all day are tiring for your feet and these help so much 🙏

•Comfy Shoes👟: My hospital allows us to wear crocs but if your facility allows crocs I 100% recommend crocs, but I also wear the Nike Zoom Air Fire shoes they’re also so comfy

... Read moreWorking as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) can be physically and mentally demanding, especially when faced with 12-hour shifts. Hydration is critical; keep a reusable water bottle handy to ensure you stay refreshed. Comfortable footwear is paramount; consider investing in supportive shoes such as Crocs or specialized sneakers designed for healthcare professionals. Compression socks can be a game-changer for reducing fatigue in your legs during shifts, promoting better blood circulation. In addition to physical comfort, maintaining a positive mindset is essential. Take short breaks to recharge mentally, perhaps listening to your favorite podcast or music with wireless earbuds. Setting small goals throughout the day can also help you stay motivated. Moreover, staying organized is key to managing your responsibilities efficiently. A foldable clipboard can serve as a portable workspace while colorful pens add a cheerful touch to your notes. Lastly, don’t underestimate the value of skin care; frequent hand washing can lead to dry, irritated skin, so keep hand cream readily available. With these essentials in hand, you can navigate the challenges of long shifts with greater ease.
