Reflecting on the phrase, "It’s not your job to find the wounded child in every monster," I realize how important it is to establish healthy emotional boundaries in difficult relationships. In my own experience, I have met people who carry deep pain that influences their behavior negatively. While it’s tempting to want to heal or understand them fully, I learned that taking on that role can lead to burnout and emotional exhaustion. Instead, focusing on self-care and prioritizing my mental health has made me more compassionate without overwhelming myself. Accepting that some individuals must confront their own wounds independently freed me from unwarranted guilt. It also improved my relationships by setting clear limits on what I can offer emotionally. Awareness about these boundaries is especially crucial in the context of domestic violence (#dv and #dvawareness). Supporting survivors requires empathy and resources, but it also means recognizing our own limits to avoid emotional depletion. This realization has been liberating and healing—reminding us that while compassion is essential, safeguarding our own emotional well-being empowers us to be genuinely supportive when it matters most.
