เผื่อใครกำลังเสิร์ช “คืนจันทร์ดับ” หรือ “ฆาตกรรมคืนจันทร์ดับ” แล้วลังเลว่าจะเหมาะกับตัวเองไหม เราขอเล่าแบบคนอ่านจริง (ไม่สปอยล์) ว่าหนังสือเล่มนี้ให้ฟีลสืบสวนที่ “เร่งเครื่อง” ขึ้นเรื่อย ๆ มาก ตอนต้นจะพาเรารู้จักโครงการที่พักอาศัยสุดหรูอย่างรอยัลทาวน์และตัวละครหลักก่อน ทำให้ตามทันง่าย แต่พอคดีเริ่มแตกกิ่ง ปมจะค่อย ๆ ซ้อนปมจนรู้สึกว่าอยากอ่านต่อให้รู้ว่าเกิดอะไรขึ้นกันแน่ สิ่งที่ชอบคือจังหวะการเล่าเรื่องค่อนข้างกระชับ อ่านแล้วไม่หน่วง มีจุดให้หยุดคิดเป็นระยะ ๆ ว่าใครน่าสงสัยที่สุด โดยเฉพาะพาร์ตที่มี “ข้อความปริศนา” โผล่มา (อย่างประโยค “ฉันยังไม่ตาย”) ตรงนี้คือทำให้บรรยากาศทั้งเล่มชวนระแวงและตื่นเต้นขึ้นทันที จากที่คิดว่าคดีน่าจะไปทางเดิม ๆ ก็เริ่มไม่มั่นใจแล้วว่าเราเชื่ออะไรได้บ้าง อีกอย่างที่อยากป้ายยา คือความ “เดายากแบบพอดี” ไม่ใช่เดายากเพราะเล่ามั่ว แต่เดายากเพราะผู้เขียนวางข้อมูลและพฤติกรรมตัวละครให้ชวนคิดตลอดเวลา บางช่วงเราจะรู้สึกว่าเริ่มจับทางได้แล้ว แต่พออ่านต่อกลับโดนหักมุมแบบหน้าชา (แต่ยังสมเหตุสมผล) เหมาะกับคนที่ชอบนิยายฆาตกรรมที่มีความพีคตอนเฉลย และชอบความรู้สึก “โดนหลอกอย่างสุภาพ” ถ้าถามว่าเล่มนี้เหมาะกับใคร: เหมาะกับคนที่อยากได้นิยายสืบสวนสอบสวนที่อ่านสนุก เข้าใจไม่ยากในช่วงแรก แต่ยอมให้ช่วงท้ายมีความซับซ้อนขึ้นนิดนึง (แนะนำว่าใกล้จบค่อย ๆ อ่านช้าลงหน่อย จะเก็บรายละเอียดได้ครบกว่า) และเหมาะกับคนที่ชอบบรรยากาศคดีในพื้นที่ปิด/สังคมคนรวย เพราะฉากในโครงการหรูทำให้แรงกดดันและภาพลักษณ์ของผู้คนมีผลกับรูปคดีมาก ก่อนซื้ออยากกระซิบอีกข้อ: ที่ปกหลังมีคำเตือนเนื้อหารุนแรงและระบุว่าไม่เหมาะสำหรับผู้มีอายุต่ำกว่า 18 ปี ใครไวกับประเด็นความรุนแรงหรือบรรยากาศคดีฆาตกรรม แนะนำให้พิจารณาตรงนี้ก่อนนะ สุดท้าย ถ้าคุณกำลังหา “คืนจันทร์ดับ” ที่อ่านเพลินแต่ยังได้ความเข้มข้น เล่มนี้เป็นตัวเลือกที่หยิบแล้วมีโอกาสอ่านยาวจนจบในวันเดียวจริง ๆ โดยเฉพาะใครชอบสไตล์ตั้งชื่อบทธีมจันทร์ (จันทร์ดับ/จันทร์เสี้ยว/จันทร์เพ็ญ) จะยิ่งรู้สึกว่าเล่มนี้มีลูกเล่นและความหมายแฝงที่ทำให้จำได้หลังอ่านจบ
