Gospel for today: Mark 8:22
Gospel for today according to Saint Mark
Mark 8:22-26
When Jesus and his disciples arrived at Bethsaida,
people brought to him a blind man and begged Jesus to touch him.
He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village.
Putting spittle on his eyes he laid his hands on the man and asked,
“Do you see anything?”
Looking up the man replied, “I see people looking like trees and walking.”
Then he laid hands on the man’s eyes a second time and he saw clearly;
his sight was restored and he could see everything distinctly.
Then he sent him home and said, “Do not even go into the village.”

In Mark 8:22-26, Jesus’s healing of the blind man offers a rich narrative about faith, sight, and spiritual understanding. The journey to healing begins when the blind man is brought to Jesus in Bethsaida. Notably, the process of healing unfolds in two distinct stages. Initially, the man sees figures resembling trees, symbolizing his partial understanding of faith. The second touch from Jesus grants him complete vision, reinforcing the notion that spiritual clarity often comes gradually. This passage invites readers to contemplate the stages of their spiritual journeys. Just as the blind man required two touches to fully see, individuals often grow in their understanding of faith over time. Furthermore, Jesus instructs the man to avoid returning to the village, emphasizing the personal nature of spiritual experiences. The act of healing extends beyond physical sight; it symbolizes the deeper insight that comes from relationship with Christ. As we reflect on this Gospel, it begs the question: How do we allow Jesus to open our eyes spiritually? The notion of seeing clearly pertains not only to understanding Scripture but also to discerning God’s presence in daily life. The themes of faith, healing, and the transformative power of Jesus resonate through generations, encouraging believers to seek deeper engagement with their faith and the teachings of the Gospel. Let this message inspire us to embrace the journey of faith and to recognize the moments when our understanding is revealed. Engage with this scripture, and invite others to witness the transformation that happens through faith.
