Gospel for today Luke 4:38-44
Gospel for today according to Saint Luke
Luke 4:38-44
After Jesus left the synagogue, he entered the house of Simon.
Simon's mother-in-law was afflicted with a severe fever,
and they interceded with him about her.
He stood over her, rebuked the fever, and it left her.
She got up immediately and waited on them.
At sunset, all who had people sick with various diseases brought them to him.
He laid his hands on each of them and cured them.
And demons also came out from many, shouting, "You are the Son of God."
But he rebuked them and did not allow them to speak
because they knew that he was the Christ.
At daybreak, Jesus left and went to a deserted place.
The crowds went looking for him, and when they came to him,
they tried to prevent him from leaving them.
But he said to them, "To the other towns also
I must proclaim the good news of the Kingdom of God,
because for this purpose I have been sent."
And he was preaching in the synagogues of Judea.

The passage from Luke 4:38-44 powerfully illustrates Jesus’ compassion and divine authority as He heals the sick and casts out demons. His actions in Simon’s house demonstrate not only physical healing but also spiritual restoration, showing the holistic nature of His ministry. The immediate recovery of Simon’s mother-in-law emphasizes the power of Jesus’ word and touch, inviting believers to trust in His ability to bring wholeness. In this passage, Jesus also rebukes the demons who recognize Him as the Son of God, underscoring His authority over evil. Despite their acknowledgment, Jesus silences them, reflecting the timing and purpose of His mission. This reminds readers that faith and recognition of Jesus must be accompanied by spiritual discernment and obedience to His will. The scene where Jesus withdraws to a deserted place to pray highlights the vital role of prayer and solitude in maintaining spiritual strength and guidance. Even as crowds seek Him relentlessly, Jesus prioritizes prayer and preparation for the ongoing work of proclaiming the Kingdom of God. This teaches us about balancing service with personal renewal and the importance of seeking God’s direction. Finally, Jesus’ declaration that He must preach in other towns reaffirms the universal scope of His mission. It is a call for believers to share the good news beyond familiar surroundings, echoing the Great Commission. The passage encourages spreading faith through action, healing, and teaching, reinforcing that every Christian has a role in building God's kingdom on earth. Overall, this gospel passage offers profound insights into Jesus' healing ministry, the power of prayer, and the dedication required to fulfill God's mission. It invites reflection on the believer’s own response to Christ’s calling and the importance of faith in everyday life.
